Floor Space

Whether you’re a professional or a DIYer, organizing your tools in a tool chest helps you to be more efficient and protects your investment. Don’t worry—you got this!

Vertical Space

To maximize your tool storage, add a coordinating mid-chest or top-chest on the cabinet, and don’t forget to measure how tall the chest will be with the till opened.

Types of Tools

For power tools, look for a tool chest or cabinet with deep drawers; for hand tools, smaller accessories and bits, make sure that there’s sufficient shallow storage. Remember to check the weight capacity of both the drawers and the entire unit to ensure they can handle the load.

Drawers

Drawers with ball bearings extend fully, giving you easy access to every part of the drawer. The higher number of ball bearings per slide, the easier it will be to open and close drawers, even when the contents are heavy.

Lockable drawers help keep your tools safe and secure, giving you peace of mind.

If you’ll be moving the cabinet around, look for drawers that latch when they’re closed, so that they don’t slide open when moved and keep contents secure and.

Drawer liners protect both your tools and the drawers from unnecessary wear and tear.

Convenience

Gas struts on the till make it easier to open. AC holes in the back of the cabinet allow for power cables to pass through.

Durability

A high steel gauge ensures a high level of durability; however, it also makes the piece heavier, so keep that in mind if you want to move the cabinet around your shop.

Mobility

Make sure to check the capacity of the casters on the cabinet, in order to choose a unit that can handle the weight of your tools plus a chest, if you are adding one. Keep in mind that the total caster capacity may not support each drawer when it’s filled.
