How to Choose Incandescent Bulbs

As the oldest type of light bulb, incandescent bulbs can be found in a wide variety of wattages, base types, and styles. Used in everything from appliances like your fridge or oven to outdoor floodlights, incandescent bulbs are a versatile addition for home lighting.

What are incandescent light bulbs?

Incandescent light bulbs use a filament in a gas-filled bulb to generate light when electric current passes through.

How do I know which incandescent bulb I need to buy?

The two most important things to keep in mind are to match the wattage and base type of bulb to the fixture where you'll be using it.

Why would I choose incandescent bulbs over other types of light bulbs?

Incandescent bulbs can provide a warm glow and appearance that's distinct compared to other common light bulbs. In appliances like microwaves, ovens, kitchen exhaust fans, and some light fixtures, incandescent bulbs are most used.

Can LEDs replace incandescent bulbs?

There are many LED bulbs created specifically to replace incandescent bulbs in a variety of base sizes, wattages, and brightness levels.
