What is first aid and why is it important?

First aid refers to the medical attention given to someone immediately after an injury, to make sure injuries don't get worse before professionals arrive on scene. It's important because proper first aid can make a big difference in recovery or even save someone's life.

What first aid supplies should I always have available?

The most important first aid supplies include: adhesive bandages in a range of sizes, sterile gloves and dressings, antiseptic wipes, tweezers, gauze pads, medical tape, and tweezers.

What's included in a first aid kit?

Most first aid kits will have a variety of bandages and wrappings for covering cuts and abrasions, as well as medical tape to secure bandages, antiseptic wipes and sponges to clean wounds, and scissors or safety pins. Larger kits may include burn creams, splints, and other useful but bulkier items.

How often do first aid supplies need to be replaced?

Sealed dry bandages and wraps will remain usable for years if stored properly, while creams, wipes, and medications will have an expiration date printed on them. Check your kits regularly so you know if anything needs to be replaced.
