Glue guns are a great staple to have around your home or garage for crafts, woodworking projects, repairs, and more. Hot glue guns are available in corded and cordless styles and are used with compatible hot glue sticks of varying strengths, lengths, diameters, and colours. You can use high temperature glue guns for piecing together wood and metal whereas low temperature glue guns work great for gluing fabrics, paper, and cardboards.
What are the steps to using a glue gun?
To use a standard, corded hot glue gun:
1) Place a size compatible hot glue stick into the glue stick feeder inlet.
2) Plug your glue gun into an electrical socket.
3) Wait for the glue stick to melt for about five minutes, though this can vary based on the size of the glue gun and glue gun sticks.
4) When ready, pull your glue gun’s trigger to use the adhesive on your project.
Read the user manual or instructions included with your glue gun to safely use your selected model.
Is a glue gun a fire hazard?
A hot melt glue gun can be a fire hazard if handled improperly. As with any hot tool, ensure you use a glue gun stand or place it on a safe surface in between uses or while it cools off. Keep hot melt glue guns away from flammable objects when not in use. Taking proper care will help prevent overheating, melted glue spills, electrical shocks, short circuiting, and skin burns.
How to clean a glue gun?
When you are done using your glue gun, use a small triple folded sheet of aluminum to wipe off hot melted glue residue. This prevents the glue from congealing on the nozzle and clogging your device. If glue has already congealed anywhere on the nozzle or the surface of your glue gun, you can plug it back in and use another triple folded sheet of aluminum to remove any excess glue.
