A: The paint applies very well without a primer. I have used it with and without primer and it works equally well.

A: That is exactly what we use it for. We spray our fire ring :however, it does not last very long. We spray it every year!

A: It should state on the can the temps, for it to work at its best. And that being said your drying time will be determined by the temp in which your working.

A: Yes. Clean the loose rust off and give it 2 coats of Rust Reformer. A layer of chassis paint will finish it off nicely

Q: Does one need to use only an oil-based paint on top of this product, or can other types of paint be used as well?

A: Not specifically listed by the manufacturer, but it does not appear to require an oil-based paint formulation ... seeing I have been able to use just about any available brand of spray paint as the topcoat with perfect adhesion. The Tremclad Rust Reformer, unlike the other similar-purpose brands tried, produced a thicker, darker & more-adherent base coat compound with the rusted metal. Even without a top coat of paint, the black matte finish is quite attractive & very rust-resistant, and in certain applications, e.g., car restoration engine bay work, best left unpainted for any needed spot reapplications.

A: Hi, Great question! Our Tremclad Rust Reformer is not recommended for car wheel studs due to the amount of wear and tear they will be exposed to. If you do decide to give it a try, frequent touch ups will be required.

A: Hi Bobalingam, Yes, our Tremclad Rust Reformer can be used on metal bikes as black spray paint as long as the surface is very clean and scuff sanded for maximum adhesion.
