Expensive grill to throw away after 2 years of use

The plates on this grill WILL wear out, it’s just a matter of time. We have been waiting well over a year for them to stock the bottom plate and, on checking again today, see it has been removed from their site altogether. Don’t waste your hard earned money on this throw away appliance. Highly recommend buying a competitors model.

Features would have been good if they actually worked

Grill's sensor cooking only worked for a few months. Then it would almost never signal it had preheated but shut off instead. Even in manual mode it is proving unreliable, after flashing and refusing to work even after reset.

Q: How large is the cooking surface? There appear to be no details in the description indicating size of the product at all.

A: I don't have the exact dimensions without going and measuring but it is large enough to take 4 good size New York steaks if that gives you an idea. I would email T-Fal and ask your question to get the exact dimensions.

Q: Can you set two different grilling option? For example: cook steak medium rare on one side of the grill and another well done on the other side.

A: No, you have to do your item take it off then reset but takes very little time to reset or cook. Bear in mind there is really only room for two burgers or two smaller steaks it's not as large as some units but good size for two people or a family if you cycle thru. It does not take long for anything!

Q: other options for grill Can you cook any other types of food except meat? (ex. bread, waffles, etc.)

A: Yes. There is a sandwich option. Waffles would be fine on the manual selection. There is an feature that does foods from frozen. Grill vegetables, fruit, anything that you would grill on the BarBQ can be grilled on the Optigrill. Just follow the instructions and you should be fine.

Q: I am not getting grill marks on the bottom of my meat. When I cook meat I am not getting good grill marks on the bottom. The top grill makes nice grill marks. I am following the directions and letting the grill preheat. Is this normal or could there be a problem with the bottom grill?

A: You have not detailed what type of noise but I believe that there are some ticking noises that are customary when something is being heated to a high heat. The other sound is the beeping that the unit does when it reaches temperature.

Q: Does it works for the pannini ? I brought other made and I find difficult to use when Im trying to cover the top lid to press the sandwich the lid does not close like normal way meaning that the sandwich will stay and not moving when I am trying to close press it.

A: No, this is not a panini machine, It is a waffle machine. The lid will only close when a liquid batter is placed in the grates but it will not close if you put a wrap or other bread inside it. There are machines for pannani's....

A: Generally the optigrill does not create a lot of smoke. The grilling plates are angled, allowing fats and juices to drip into a tray. This design feature eliminates most of the smoke that you would get from an outdoor bbq or grill.
