      Basketball hoop

Was able to assemble myself except for the 3 backboard frame pieces which require drilling and the provided screws/bit were not the correct size. Got what I paid for ($700), nothing great.

      Good Net, but Frustrating Assembly

The basketball net itself is solid once it's finally set up—sturdy and performs well during play. However, getting to that point was a frustrating process. The instructions that came with it were vague and poorly written, making assembly confusing and time-consuming. Even worse, the screws provided were too large to properly install the moulded backboard padding, which seems like a pretty significant oversight in the design or packaging. If you’re handy or don’t mind improvising a bit, you’ll end up with a decent hoop. But if you’re expecting a smooth installation process right out of the box, be prepared for some headaches.

Great Net! Relatively easy to assemble, but definitely need two adults for a few steps. Definitely budget 4-5 hours to assemble.

      Spalding Hercules Polycarbonate Portable Basketbal

I love this! It took me a few days to put it together, putting in an hour each day. I needed help a few times from my wife. Putting it together for me was making a mistake and then realizing the mistake and redoing it. Doing it this, allows you to know how to take it apart later. I like the colour of the backboard compared to the blue I see around town. The adjustable feature of it is great. M

Q: Is this product easy to assemble on your own?

      4 Answers
      • A: The installation is doable.  However, 2 people and a few tools are needed.  The only part that was stressful was to fit the 2 long tubes into each other: they were quite tight. It is a beautiful and solid basketball hoop.  Kids (and adults) love it!

Q: Spalding Basketball Net 184-0810-4. I bought this basketball net for my son for his birthday, but when I took it out of the box to assemble it, the base had a large dent in one corner. It's very deep, 4.5". I am devastated. Can I return it to the store?

      • A: Thanks, I brought it back to the store and they gave me a new one. They could see the box was clearly hit with a pump truck.

Q: How much sand do we need to put in the base ? Maximum quantity

      • A: The directions call for water or sand. Or a mixture of both.  If using sand alone, 400 lbs is needed. When mixed together, only 200 lbs is needed.

Q: Is the backboard shater proof? Spalding seems to have that problem mine shattered after 2 years of use and many used one's you find online have the same issue they're all Spalding

      • A: I don't know if it is shatterproof but mine has held up with very heavy use. However, these nets do seem to have a problem with the backboard not remaining straight. Mine became crooked very soon after assembly, with no apparent way to adjust or secure it. It's on a level surface, but the backboard remains askew. My neighbour has the same issue, as do others posting online.

Q: The installers (Canadian Tire Home Services) made a mistake by connecting the top section pole to the bottom section pole, without the middle pole section (all 3.5” dia). Is it possible to separate the poles without damaging them? How?

Q: Fall and winters in my city are bitterly cold so I can not fill the basketball net base with water (and I am not interested in emptying the water in the fall). I only want to put sand in the base, not water. How much sand do I need; 200 lbs or 400 lbs?

      2 Answers
      • A: 200 lbs seen good. This is a good idea with sand, but if you want to move it, there is a chance that you will break the bolts from the plastic base.

Q: I was installing this basketball system, and when I fully installed it I tried using the screw jack to try lifting up the backboard but it didn’t move at all and now I’m so confused. I really need help please!!!

      2 Answers
      • A: We did the same thing. The problem is that where the screw is connecting the metal, it is not through the metal and just the little plastic piece where the jack mechanism is located. You would have to take the plastics piece off and put the screw through the metal piece as well as the plastic .
