Vacuum with a Very Limited Sense of Georgraphy

There is a certain faith one places in a robot vacuum. You set it loose upon the household terrain, this small humming pilgrim, and you hope it will return with the dust, lint, crumbs, and assorted evidence of daily life gathered into its little mechanical heart. I have had this Shark robot vacuum for about a year and a half. In the ordinary course of things, it vacuums reasonably well. But give it something with the slightest will to live, a loose thread, a bit of lint clinging to the carpet and even on the highest setting the Shark often just rolls on by. No confrontation. No drama. Just a quiet refusal to engage. But suction is not the larger question here. The larger question is corporate greed. My home has a sunken living room, and the bedrooms are on the second floor. The app allows the vacuum to map only one area. One. As though a house were a flat plain, as though stairs and levels and human architectural whimsy had never entered the story. Because of this, the vacuum can properly map only about one third of my modest home. Now, I am not a software engineer for Shark, but I have been around long enough to recognize when a limitation smells less like physics and more like hunger for profit. It feels very much as though this choice exists to encourage people to buy multiple units, when one machine woul do the job just fine with a modest bit of software generosity. And that, to me, is the part that lingers. A product can have flaws. We all do. But when a limitation appears to be designed not by necessity, but by appetite for profit, it changes how you feel about the brand. I am currently looking to replace my canister vacuum and buy a carpet cleaner. After this experience, Shark will not be on the list. The vacuum is adequate in some ways, but the mapping restriction feels unnecessarily greedy, and that is a hard thing to sweep under the rug.

No, I do not recommend this product.
