Not able to control or shut off TV

Bought this TV for Christmas, really good price for a 42" LED 4K TV, and we were really satisfied until this week, at first I thought it was simply a fluke, the volume control didn't work, I simply shut the TV with the power button and turned it back on, every thing seemed to work fine, then it happened again, and later again, finally it could not be shut off using the power button or the remote, unplugging it and waiting a while cleared the problem for a short while but the problem re-appeared, no volume control and no way to turn off the TV other than pulling the plug. I am now thinking I have a dud, but after searching the internet I can see I am not alone, I have written to SEIKI asking for help, I will post here when I have news. Say a prayer for me. God bless Jim

No, I do not recommend this product.

Going in to buy 4 more

I don't write reviews too often, but this product deserves it. This review is for the Seiki SE42UMT 42-Inch 4K Ultra HD LED TV... We bought this 4K UHD TV just before Christmas and we absolutely love it! I don't understand the review about the poor sound quality as ours sounds great! There is no "tin can" sound at all. Maybe they just got a lemon and I certainly sympathize with them for that. At any rate, the sound from the built-in speakers in our TV is very clear. I have to ask others to turn down the volume as I can hear everything very clearly, even when it is set to 5-8... and I am over 60 years old! The picture quality is amazing... even on old Turner Classic movies! You can see every wrinkle on the actors' faces and the picture is so crisp and clear that you feel like you are watching a live stage production! Who needs more useless bells and whistles for thousands of extra dollars? I'd rather save our retirement money for other things like vacations and we do save a lot with the generously low price on these Seiki's. At any rate... yes, we are so satisfied with our 42-inch Seiki TV that we are going to be buying 3 extra TV's for our other bedrooms and giving one as a gift to an employee. We are even thinking about going in for a big one for the living room. Who knew? We used to buy top of the line Sonys! With these babies, we’ll be all ready when our cable company rolls out the new upgrades on cable this coming year and… we will have saved a whole lot of money in the process! Totally recommend the 42-inch Seiki. It's a very smart buy!

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Best TV deal I've ever seen in this class

I've owned this TV since boxing week 2015 and it's been brilliant. I rate it 5 stars based on it's overall value and didn't ding it for nit-picks. A 42" UHD ("4K") LED back-lit TV at this price is an incredible bargain to begin with. But what makes this set special is it's quality and versatility. Aside from all the tech specs, Seiki gave us a sexy, modern looking TV with a thin bezel and LG-inspired stand. They could have just as easily slapped the guts into a lazily designed hunk of plastic and we'd still have a deal on our hands. But what makes this a killer deal (for me at least) is that this TV doesn't simply check the "4K" tickbox and call it a day. It actually supports UHD at 60Hz, 8bpp colour AND has a low latency mode (called "PC Mode"). In other words, it CAN be used as a primary computer monitor unless you really need 4:4:4 chroma (if you don't know what that means then you probably don't). Try finding another set that can do all that at this price point BEFORE this model arrived on shelves... I bet you can't. Are there things I don't like about it or would like to see improved? Sure. I can nit-pick apart anything. But at the price I paid there is absolutely nothing to complain about. Anyone complaining about this set most likely got a lemon or had unreasonable expectations to begin with. As for 4K content, there isn't a whole lot out there yet but that's quickly changing. Upscaled content also looks really good and--if nothing else--will at least benefit from the smaller pixel structure. Is it the right time to ditch all your HD gear for UHD? Probably not. But if you're already in the market for a TV then give this Seiki some serious consideration.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Brilliant 4K TV - After Necessary Tweaking

Got this 4K TV working very nicely and for just over $400 tax in (Clearance price in December), it is a great deal with all the Smart features as well. ***This TV needs some adjustments in order to see all its glory and potential though. One major tweak is to turn OFF the Motion Enhancement feature in the Picture settings, this way, the video looks more film-like and normal. Adjust the other picture settings in Standard Mode only, as this mode seems to be more natural for this TV. However, if you use this TV as a computer monitor in 4K, use the PC Mode instead via HDMI (30hz but can do up to 60Hz). After these adjustments, then this display in 4K looks vibrant and super sharp, especially watching some 4K YouTube videos and 4K computer desktop (a lot of real estate to work with too on screen).

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: My se42umt tv got tugged on and the aerial thingy just pulled iut. How do i fix it? Thanks from Canada the cleaning lady pulled at the tv and the aerial snapped out. do you have a diagram of this area?

    1 Answer
    • A: This might be an issue on the coaxial port at the back of the unit, usually coax connectors are directly connected to the main board of the TV so to fix this issue is they need to replace the main board of the Unit. Please see attached.

Q: My remote control is not working properly and the picture too dark even if I put maximum brightness and contrast . Anyone knows what to do?

    1 Answer
    • A: re: remote control -You can test the remote control with a camera phone or digital camera. See the following website for instructions: http://www.wikihow.com/Check-if-a-Remote-Control-is-Transmitting-an-Infrared-Signal re: dark picture 1. Make sure that the video cables are securely connected to the television and the video source. 2. Try resetting the TV settings, using the "Restore Default" option. Go to "Setup" and select "System" menu. Choose the "Restore Default" option. 3. Watch video from a different source, such as a DVD player, to see if the dark picture is being caused by the TV or the device connected to the TV. 4. Unplug the power cord for a minute to reset the television.
