Rainfresh RO450 Reverse Osmosis (RO) Drinking Water System

$339.99

Product Details

The Rainfresh Reverse Osmosis system removes dissolved minerals such as mercury, nitrates, fluoride, and sodium from the residential water supply. Designed for use on well, lake or city water, the Rainfresh RO provides the same fresh and great tasting water as bottled water with the simple turn of a faucet. As RO water has very low mineral content, it does not leave white scale deposits (if the supply water is hard or brackish) which makes it great for steam irons, indoor plants, tea kettles and humidifiers. A cartridge replacement monitor reminds you every six months to replace the filter cartridges.

  • Turns ordinary tap water into premium quality drinking and cooking water in residential and business settings, cottages, farms and off-grid applications

  • Filters sediment, dirt, rust, silt and other suspended solids

  • Protects against lead, chlorine taste and colour

It leaks!!!

Don’t buy this, it leaks at the blue pre filters. Spent alot of time trying to get them to seal, replaced the seals, made sure everything was clean and in proper place. And they still leak. Save your money and find a different RO system.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Not worth it

not worth it, leaks at the filter bowls, cheap feed and drain taps that nobody should use on household plumbing, 1/4" lines that nobody sells fittings for (just try and find a tee in 1/4" OD at Canadian Tire for PE or PEX hose). After reinstalling the filter bowls 3-4 times and swapping them side to side to see if the leaks change, found scratches in the sealing area. The worst is everytime you have to open it big mess, there is not shut off on top like their whole house filter set ups with a simple rotation of the top. There is pressure inside the filters no matter how much you drain the system. Really poor design, I cannot imagine what a plumber would say or cost to actually install them and be leak free. I have lived with Rainfresh whole house filters for 10 years without any problems but this set up is terrible. After a flushing the system as required, water still tastes like municipal water and softened. It did little to remove the softened water taste or chlorine. Have reached out to Rainfresh about the leaks waiting for a response.

No, I do not recommend this product.

The sediment and carbon filters leaks. Went to local Canadian Tire store to complained but got no satisfactory solution. No O-ring available in the store. Found the O-ring at nearby Rona store. Installed these. But the next day it is leaking again. So frustrated. With the wet basement. It could have been a total disaster if this was installed “under the sink”.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Could this unit be placed before water tower.  Water would be pumped from lake through filter system to eliminate residue in tank.  Question is would the filter system be able to process a high rate of flow in filling the water tower tank.

  • A: Hi Slick, this R.O. System is not for high flow. I installed this system under my kitchen sink to filter water from our well for drinking. We have a well that has a lot of sediment, iron and also bacteria. I have installed and would recommend the Rainfresh whole home filter with a 30 micron filter for sediment. Depending on amount of sediment the filter usually needs to be replaced every few months. You can get the basic one or a high flow unit. I have the filter installed after the water tank. Not sure if the basic one would handle the high flow from your lake pump. Should be fine if you have a 1/2hp pump. I also installed the rainfresh UV system that adds another 5 micron filter before the UV light. Pretty happy with the complete system. Very important to keep up the maintenance and replace filters and UV lamps when required.

Q: Can this unit be adequately drained to prevent freeze damage over winter in an unheated space? I'd like to use it at a recreational property that isn't used from November to February.

  • A: I think so. Turn off the water supply, drain the tank, take off the filters and drain the lines. Not sure if there’s any way to be sure all the lines were empty, though.

Q: yes, this is dependent upon how many folks there in a household BUT, how long does an RO filter element last until it needs to be changed?

  • A: We have really dirty water so we do have a 5 micron pre filter before our RO system but that said it's been installed about 5 months now with 3 adults drinking and cooking with the RO water daily and we haven't found any deterioration in the taste or colour to this point. The recommended intervals for changing the filters are different depending on which filter (RO, charcoal, particulate, etc) but the the RO membrane itself I think was every 12 months.

Q: Can you install this directly to a refrigerator water line? Have an LG fridge with water and ice maker..

1 Answer
  • A: The quick answer is YES you can connect the RO system to your water-dispensing fridge and it’s relatively easy. If you are installing the RO in the basement, you can run the filtered water tubing (you may need additional ¼” OD tubing) through the kitchen floor behind the fridge and make the connection. In this case the drain tube from the RO can be run to a floor drain or a laundry tub close by. The total length of the filtered water tube should not be more than 15 feet. If you are installing the system under the kitchen sink and want to run an additional line to the fridge, you will need a ¼” Tee fitting and some additional ¼” OD tubing. You will need to hide and protect the tubing though. The drain tube will attach to the undersink drain pipe as shown in the instruction manual. In both cases a union fitting to connect the RO filtered water tube to the fridge tube will likely be needed. You can always call Rainfresh technical support for clarification on installation. We would be happy to assist you with your install.

Q: Does this unit remove arsenic from well water, and if so, does it have an upper limit on the concentration of arsenic (in parts per billion) it can safely treat?

1 Answer
  • A: Rainfresh RO (621010) has not been specifically tested for Arsenic reduction (health contaminant). Arsenic exists in two forms in water – Ar3 and Ar5. Most reverse osmosis systems reduce up to 85% Ar5 but Ar3 is a bit trickier and water may need to be pre-treated (chlorinated) to convert Ar3 to Ar5. For more information on Arsenic reduction, please call Rainfresh Technical Support at 1800 667 8072

Q: Description says electronic monitoring of filters, but this system is not electric?

1 Answer
  • A: Hello Colin, Model RO450M (no longer available at Canadian Tire) has a simple battery-operated electronic monitor that lights up after 6 months to remind the user of filter change. The current model RO450 is identical to RO450M except that it does not have this model. It seems that the old description has not been removed from the website and we apologize for the confusion. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Rainfresh customer support at 1800 667 8072. Thank you!

Translate with Google
1 Answer
