    10 years and still going..

I have used this tent for the last ten + years from early spring Canoe trips, through summer and fall. It more than spacious enough for 3 as we have tested a few times. I have generally use the tent with 2 and it VERY spacious. I find the mesh body is great in the summer to allow the breezes to pass through with the fly open on both doors. However I do find it can be a bit cool during shoulder season camping. Having 2 doors and 2 vestibules is such a great option. The poles are alum and have held up very well. After 10 years the tent still does not leak,( I did reapply waterproofing to the fly a few years ago as a precaution before a rainy trip) I made up a ground sheet with Tyvek house wrap as the floor is quite thin. Its has great pockets on both ends of the tent body (Maybe a little too deep). Overall weight for a 3 man tent is not bad, but def not ultra light either. My only real compliant is the horrible sleeves that you feed the poles through. It can be a real pain compared to clips. The majority of the sleeve is mesh and we have poked through it in a few spots even with being careful. If Outbound would have designed with pole clips instead of sleeves it would much better. I still feel at that if you can find it on sale it's a great tent for up to 3 people. Sure there are lighter more high tech options out there most with clips instead of sleeves, but they are generally much more $$. It has served my family well and seen many a backwoods campsites through Algonquin, crown land etc.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Great backing tent

Me and one other person used this tent for a 7 day canoe trip in Algonquin park in Ontario Canada, it was perfect, night easy to set up and great in the rain. The only thing is it is a kind of strange design and a bit confusing at first to set up. It took a few times of me setting it up before hand to remember exactly what worked best to set it up. I wanted to have it down pat because there is sometimes not a lot of space to set up or not a favourable site to put it.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Starting to wear out

We purchased this tent in 2012 (so we've used it for 3 seasons). The floor is starting to wear down a bit. It's not the tarp-like floor a lot of tents have. Also, as others have pointed out, don't like all the mesh around the poles. Although we're always careful with the poles, I am starting to see the mesh start to pull around the pockets within the tent. I normally put a flashlight in one of these pockets, maybe an item of clothing, not much more. So if you're using it, I'd watch out for the mesh pulling. We made it through a rainstorm with this though and our stuff was completely dry inside. But that was before the floor started to give out, now having my doubts about it.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Does this tent come with a footprint?

    1 Answer
    • A: The Backpacker tent does not come with a footprint. It does however come with a full nylon floor with a sturdy 5000 mm PU coating to keep the water out. You could purchase a small ground sheet to prevent any intrusions from ground objects like rocks.

    Q: indoor privacy screen?

    1 Answer
    • A: The Backpacker 3 tent uses a combination of polyester ripstop and mesh for the inner tent. This is ideal for ventilation and bug protection. The flysheet is a polyester ripstop with taped seams and a 2000 millimeter polyurethane water coating for weather-proof protection. There is no additional solid polyester panel on the mesh doors of the inner tent.
