Terrible lights, worse customer service

I’ve spent close to $900 on NOMA Smart Voice Command lights from Canadian Tire, and they’ve only worked properly for one season. They constantly unpair, glitch, and require full resets—issues that many other customers are also reporting. Despite the advertised 5–10 year warranty, Canadian Tire refuses to honour it without a receipt and won’t even look up the purchase through my points. I’ve already exchanged the entire setup once, and the same problems came back. The product is unreliable, and the warranty support has been extremely disappointing. I do not recommend these lights or the customer service behind them.

Q: How do I coordinate multiple strings so that the patterns move from one string to the next rather than starting on each string at the same time? This seems like a major limitation of the entire system if I can't do this.

  • A: You should be able to start each individual strand, so if you're fast make it look like that's what's going on

Q: I have the stay-lit 2.0,on the box it says 50 different light show combinations,if I were to use the hub would this increase?

  • A: The hub paired with the lights is what provides the combinations. You’ll need to download the Noma app and set it up from there, but you can’t get any combos without a hub.

Q: Do you need the smart lights or will this hyb work with any string  lights!

  • A: The Hub only works with the smart NOMA lights. But they are worth the investment, easily programmable, durable and stunning. We had tons of compliments.

Q: 2 Part question since I have 2 strings of the older Gen 1 smart lights: Will this hub control my Gen 1 smart lights? Can I add Gen 1 strings to Gen 2 strings and will they be synced?

3 Answers
  • A: I'm answering my own question - Gary55 here. I took a chance and bought the hub anyway. Caution to Gen 1 light owners since the product description is misleading. Per Cdn. Tire description (Owners of the original NOMA Advanced Voice Command String Lights can continue to build their collection and control both generations simultaneously through one application). The hub does not control Gen1 lights. The app has you sync gen1 lights thru your home wifi same as previous years. The hub can only be synced to Gen 2 lights. I had the hub connected regardless and synced my gen 1 lights to wifi and then disconnected the hub. Lights stayed connected to the wifi, hub made no difference nor does it boost the wifi. Not sure if as Cnudd1 suggests you can plug gen1 lights into gen2 and then they all sync thru the hub???

Q: (dumb question?) Our power outlet  runs from the ‘centre’ of the house’s eaves. Could we place & power the controller between the wire sets and run lights each way?… Maybe -require extra wiring connection (to eliminate extension cords) ? I’ll pour another

Q: How do I set multiple timers so that I can the the lights on/off in the morning and again in the evening?

2 Answers
  • A: I don't think you can unfortunately with how the software is set up. Hopefully with new updates maybe that'll become a possibility but right now the only way to have them on at multiple times of the day is by manual control in the app or your personal home assistant (Amazon Alexa)

Q: We have a smart Hub already connected to 20 light strands. Can we purchase a second hub to run another 20 light strands?

2 Answers
  • A: I would assume so! Just make sure the other lights aren’t on when pairing them with the new hub. As long as your wifi hub has enough ports to support another hub, you should be good to go!
