After this experience, I will never buy anything from Canadian Tire again.

I bought a ball for one of my sons from Canadian Tire a month or two ago. Today, I went back to buy the same ball for my other son. We had the older ball with us, and while the employee was inflating the new ball, my 6-year-old son politely asked, “Could you please add a little air to my ball too? It doesn’t have enough air.” The employee said no. Even though they were already inflating the new ball, and it would have taken maybe 30 seconds to add a little air to the old one, we were told we would have to pay over $3 for that service. At that moment, I honestly felt saddened about where things seem to be heading, especially in Canada and especially at Canadian Tire. Now, before people jump in and say, “Well, that’s the policy,” or “Rules are rules,” I already understand that. My point is not whether the employee was following the policy. My point is that it is heartbreaking when common sense, kindness, and basic human consideration disappear behind procedures and regulations. I feel sorry for the younger generation when they grow up seeing adults act like robots who simply follow rules without any room for thought, judgment, or small acts of kindness. A child politely asked for a tiny favor that would have taken seconds and cost virtually nothing. More and more, businesses seem focused on squeezing every possible dollar out of customers rather than building goodwill, loyalty, and customer satisfaction. What my son learned that day was not customer service or kindness—it was that everything has a price tag. That experience left a very negative impression on me, and I certainly won’t be returning to Canadian Tire.
