Trustworthy battery; great service

I brought the old battery in to the store, got a core refund for it when I purchased the new one. The service from the technician was great. He was extremely helpful. The new battery is exactly the same as the returned one which was rated 48 months. It lasted 7 years. So I expect this one to last about the same.

Uncertain

I have generally had good experience with CT batteries. I purchased my first one of these and it lasted 3.75yrs (warranty 4yrs). Took it in to be tested and not good but additionally the battery has bowed. CT very nicely fully warrantied the product however warranty remaining was just 3 month which means replacement doesn't have a warranty. At the 4yr + 2 week mark on the warrantied product it is now acting up. The car I am using it in is not used that often in the winter and has a higher parasitic draw than average vehicle. I think I will have to replace the battery but not certain if I will buy this battery again. Regardless of what battery I buy I am going to use the Noco Genius1 smart trickly charger (it was recommended for my car) which will help manage the parasitic draw and avoid battery desulfation. Note I am now a mechanic or mechanically inclined.

Hello and thank you for sharing your feedback. Yes, a consistently low state of charge will reduce the lifespan of a battery. Given that the vehicle sits for periods in winter and, more so, that it has a high level of parasitic electrics (which isn't uncommon in modern vehicles and even more so in luxury models), I would suggest a NOCO GENIUS1 might be insufficient. It does not have enough power to keep up with both parasitic draw and natural self-discharge. We would encourage you to step up to a charger with at least 2 amps such as the NOCO GENIUS2, GENIUS2D, MotoMaster Simple Series 3A, MotoMaster Eliminator XPC5, Battery Tender 3A or the like.

Great customer service and great product

Q: Does CT have a memory retainer to store the vehicle memory for the 2016 mdx while changing the battery?

4 Answers
  • A: If you don't have access to a scan tool or a memory saver, leaving the car sit for a minimum of 24 hours without any battery attached will also reset the car's computer memory of the previous battery (and any pre-existing codes it already has), allowing it to register the new battery without creating new codes. After having done this myself, the only thing I had to do was to set the clock and whatever radio settings I had. Note: Even though any pre-existing codes will be reset, unless you fix whatever caused them to begin with, they will return once you start driving the car again.

Q: Is a higher CCA rating safe to use? I'm considering this battery for my Audi A4 2008 2.0T. The original battery has cold cranking amps CCA of 640, whereas this battery is much higher. Is this battery still recommended (any danger of damaging the alternator)? Thanks

  • A: You can never have to many CCA (Cold Cranking Amp), especially when it's -40C. The battery is 12 Volts, and if ot fits that all that matters, a battery having more CCA just means it has more current in the battery to help turn over the engine. For over 40 years I have always bought the largest CCA battery that I can fit in the car, my old Taurus had a larger battery but way less CCA,, so I bought a size 34 battery with 1000 CCA instead of the old 520 CCA. That car was terrible below -25C, but once I got the new battery it always started great, even below-40C. This is one time the say "Go big, or go home" is really true.

Q: Does the battery come with the height adaptor because I have an is300 and it uses a Group 24 battery but Canadian tire says the group 34 one is okay to use.

  • A: No it does not.  You really should take measurements of your old battery, because the group 34 while an inch shorter is also a bit wider, and does not come with the same cca.  Definitely take measurements.

Q: The battery i bought comes with a 4 year free replacement and road side assistance. Does it need to be installed at a Canadian tire auto shop for the warranty to be valid

2 Answers
  • A: Not that I'm aware of. I've bought several batteries from CTC over the years and have never been told that they must be installed by a CTC auto shop. I've always installed them myself. I did have one battery that had to be replaced and while this was long ago, I had no problem obtaining the replacement. You might want to put any relevant paperwork and receipt someplace where you can find it if you ever need it.

Q: Where is this battery manufactured?

  • A: There are only three manufacturers of car batteries in North America. This battery is a corvus battery which is same make as what Jeep would supply you with. If you do not believe me take a picture of battery and go compare them they are exactly the same except for the stickers
