The Mastercraft Voltage Detector/Tester has a non-contact AC voltage detector with a flashing LED and a buzzer to confirm the presence of an active current. The voltage tester can detect electric current between 70-1000V AC, as well as signals between 50-500Hz in frequency. This Mastercraft voltage tester is safety-rated to a CAT III standard, which allows it to perform continuous measuring in order to detect live wires and breakpoints in addition to detecting voltage.

Very poor quality. After installing the batteries, the cover didn't close. The on off switch should be moved away from the batteries housing. I have returned it.

This tester beeped & flashed red as soon as I inserted the batteries. It would randomly flash & beep when I was just holding it in my hand or walking across the room with it. Definitely didn't trust it to give me an accurate reading on a live outlet after that. I replaced the batteries with fresh brand name ones, thinking that may have been the cause but it did the same thing. Returning.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Would this voltage tester work for checking to see if a hard wired smoke detector has been properly turned off prior to replacing?
