This spontaneously heated up and melted the case while turned off. Seems like a potential fire hazard.

Don’t flow a fuse!!!

This unit is ok but if you blow a fuse then it’s pretty much garbage because it’s nearly impossible to purchase a fuse for it.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Can this multmeter be recalibrated? I use it for testing batteries and it underreports the voltage.

A: When testing brand new 1.5 volt batteries, this multimeter reports they are 1.42 volts, more than 5% off.

Q: I want to check voltage in a wall outlet.
The test lead tips are very small and dont reach the metal in the receptacle. Can they be modified?

A: I used a utility knife to remove the thinnest rubber ends of the test leads and I can now use this multimeter to test electrical outlets. It doesn't compromise the safety of the unit since the hard plastic pieces are still intact. I think it's worth trying.

Q: can you test regular batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, etc.) with this?
if you can test regular batteries, can anyone tell me how? can't figure it out from the enclosed manual, and i'm an electric dweeb. thanks

A: I don't know why the"pro" at Canadian Tire said you can't test regular batteries with this. All multi-meters can test regular batteries as long as they test for DC voltage and you don't exceed the voltage maximum. That's every multi-meter out there. I suppose it's easier to just pop a battery into one of those "battery testers" instead of holding the test leads to either end of a battery but these testers do so much more than just regular batteries.

Q: where is the continuity checker for this product?

A: For multimeter 052-0060-2 if you turn the dial to the ohmmeter setting 200 (also has a audio symbol which looks like a dot with 3 parentheses) you will get a beep if you touch the two leads together. You can use this setting to test for continuity and get audio feedback. It’s the main reason why I bought this multimeter.

Q: what size is the fuse
I tried measuring amps & got no reading. Checked fuse & it is blown. Can not read size of fuse.

A: My meter say's it takes a 500 mA / 250 V fast blow fuse. It's printed on the label on the back of the meter. Multi-meters use a bypass shunt so that even though it will measure up to 10 Amps DC, only a small fraction of that current is actually going through the meters circuitry. This circuit has a maximum of 500 ma (1/2 Amp).

Q: I measured a new 1.5V battery in the three ranges (1.5, 9 and 12V) repeatedly. The readings were quite different, being 1.38V, 1.56V and 1.54V. Why is that? Which one is more accurate?

2 Answers
A: Measure your battery with the correct range on the multimeter: If it’s a 1.5V battery, the reading from the multimeter’s 1.5V setting will be most accurate.

2 Answers
A: It is important to note that the safety category of alligator clips with input plug should be same or above the safety category of this multimeter, i.e. the same or above CAT III 300V.
