I generally trust Mastercraft and this was no exception. In winter when I am swimming in the ocean I like to have control over if the person on shore has the light to locate the lights I swim with. 190 lumens is nearly always enough for that. While nothing has gone wrong so far safety does come down to anticipating that it could and so I wasn't going to trust a brand of spotlight or longer distance flashlight that might have done the job but might not. It behaves as described and that is exactly what I want.
