Flawed. AC Flux not DC

Will it weld? Sure. Will it make a total mess and make for terrible consistency? Absolutely. This is technically a functional welder but for the same money you can get a PROPER DC WELDER. MC cheaped out and made this AC then calls it a Flux welder. Anyone with 4 seconds research will know Flux should be Electrode Negative DC. Tons of spatter and choppy arc gives you messy welds with questionable consistency. As a beginner (who this no doubt is targeted at) it makes it really difficult to see what's going on, and hard to know what feels or sounds right in order to improve. Good and bad welds both sound noisy and end up with a mess to clean up after. Again, yeah it'll hold some metal together, but forget making it look nice or learning the skill of welding without a great deal of frustration and wasted time. Definitely NOT user-friendly. Go find a nice DC with more power settings than 1 and... 2.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I'm welding with a welder!

I got it on sale. Great purchase. I've never loaded up a spool before, and the directions are a little vague. After an exploded wire spool, I got it going. With some practice and help from a few buddies, this thing will weld.

Q: do u need gas? Do i need gas to use this Unit?

3 Answers
  • A: if you want a clean hassle free weld use gas, even if you use flux core wire it will help to make your weld smooth and spatter free, the answer of "it is powered by electricity " is not an answer, gas will shield the arc from oxygen and the better the shielding the better the weld. i have been welding for 17 years i know what im doing.

Q: Can this machine only weld iron? Can it weld aluminum alloy?

2 Answers
  • A: No, there's no flux cored aluminum welding wire so this machine wont work. You'll need a mig welder with gas. If you're just doing a small job you could likely use those aluminum brazing rods.

  • A: Yes, that’s the same set up I run and it works fine. If you run it too long it may kick the breaker but haven’t had that issue yet.

  • A: Without knowing what your welding or why your welding it no one can answer that for you. It does a fair job for the price and power supply. Your next step up would be the Lincoln mig pak 140.
