Why weren't these invented sooner?

Great product for using those Mason jars we all have but hate fussing with the lids for products that don't need to be canned. I use the jars to store beans, lentils, rice, loose teas, and more. Also useful in smaller Masons for shake-to-make slurry and custom salad dressings.
