Do not waste your money

A bought this as a gift. After less than one year it stopped working properly. We used it less than 10 times. It was replaced under warranty which was great. I received my replacement robot and used it maybe 5 times and the battery failed. I had numerous problems in the first year and spent a significant amount of my time addressing them before the unit was replaced. Since it was more than 90 days after the replacement robot iRobot would not replace the unit or the battery. In fact they said they had no batteries available and I should find one on my own. It’s just a big paper weight at this point. I spent more time trying to fix this thing and it would have been less time of if I cleaned the floors myself. Buy a better brand. highly encourage Canadian tire to stop carrying this brand as it makes them look bad since they are selling products that obviously have issues.

No, I do not recommend this product.

A blind, deaf and dumb dog is more useful

If you have a perfectly square and bare house, the Roomba probably works fine. If not, if you have any corners or furniture, a blind, dumb and deaf dog would be more effective at cleaning. I DO NOT recommend buying this junk unless you wish to part with $800 only to waste time attempting to have it clean your floors.

Don't waste your time or money

I bought this right as the sale was ending a month ago and initially felt like it was a great purchase since I have 3 pets and cleaning my floors is the last thing I ever have time for. The last 5 times I've used it (been using daily or every second day to keep up with pet hair) it has stopped working and asks me to remove debris from the vacuum, even though this suppose to be a self cleaning robot. I've taken it apart and cleaned it thoroughly only to find no debris actually stuck anywhere and then for it to ask me a few moments later to clean the obstruction again. It's very irritating when you have a busy life, trying to focus on something important and then having to fiddle around with the roomba every 5 minutes. My floors are right back to having pet hair and crumbs to clean. The roomba is not working properly after 1 month.

  • A: After further review, according to ChatGPT: The 75-day number is an estimate of how long you can go without manually emptying the dock’s dust and debris bag under typical use. This is based on a cleaning schedule like once per week — your actual mileage will vary depending on pet hair, dirt levels, and how often the robot runs. After about 75 days: The dock’s debris bag will be close to full and will need to be emptied/replaced. It won’t stop working — it just won’t hold much more dirt until you do that. Mop pad washing and drying will continue as normal — the 75-day spec is specifically about the dust/debris capacity and not the washing function. The 75-day figure is an estimate — if your home is very dusty or has pets, you’ll probably need to empty the bag sooner; if it’s cleaner, you might stretch it longer. It’s based on average weekly use — more frequent runs will fill the bag faster.

Q: How is it with pet hair?

  • A: We have a dog that she’d like crazy. The iRobot® Roomba® Plus 4020 has a small basket and picks up some (very little) dog hair but has trouble automatically ejecting it into the base unit.  1. We sweep up as much hair as possible.  2. I have to pause the robot every few minutes to remove any hair in the robot catch basket and the section to the basket.  I don’t mind as I rather empty the robot catch basket before it gets to the base unit as the base unit uses disposible vacuume bag that is very small and expensive.  Note: There is a iRobot made specifically for pet hair but it was not available when we purchased our unit.

Q: Is this the same model as the 405? Canadian tire just get its own model number?

  • A: This answer was direct from iRobot. I understand you picked up a new robot from Canadian Tire. You bought it thinking that it was the new Roomba 405, but it was the model 4020. Let me help you with this. No worries, you are right, the model Roomba 4020 is the same as Roomba 405, Canadian Tire is one of the authorized resellers, and they only change the model of the robot as a retailer. It is the same robot, same performance, same accessories, the only difference is the model number. That is the reason why you cannot find information related to 4020, only the 405. Actually, they have all the specifications of the Roomba 405 on their website
