great blade, terrible handle

I've had this knife for about a year now, and have used it pretty extensively out in the bush. The blade holds an edge really well, and also looks gorgeous. The handle, though, is terrible. It's practically round, and if you have to actually swing this knife more than once (like you do in typical bush activities), you're needing to readjust your hands frequently. Also, having a knife that doesn't index well can be dangerous, as it can behave unpredictably. Have not tested the firestarter. Overall I would recommend this knife, just be aware of the indexing shortcoming.

Also, having a knife that doesn't index well can be dangerous, as it can behave unpredictably. I will work on reshaping (just a bit) the handle to better index, and worst case, I'll practice some bladesmithing and make my own handle to fit this knife. Have not tested the firestarter. Overall I would recommend this knife, just be aware of the indexing shortcoming.

On sale at CTC. Nice heft, sturdy handle, sharp edge. Good whittler for pointed poles, branch tent pegs, feather sticks. So far so good.

Q: What are the blade dimensions? Length of blade in inches? Blade width in inches? Blade thickness in fractional inches? Also type & grade of steel? 1050? 1095? Carbon steel? Stainless steel? Thanks in advance.

A: Apparently the steel is forged carbon steel; it's 1045 carbon steel not 420 stainless steel....this has been confirmed by the rust that was on my knife when purchased. This is an excellent choice of steel for this type of bushcraft knife btw. This knife can be used for batoning firewood & other severe survival tasks. Highly recommended; just clean & dry it & apply mineral oil before sheathing the blade. Thanks for a wonderful blade CTC ;-)
