This product had no effect on my lawn.

I spent over $30 on these two tea bag-like products, which came packaged in a small cardboard box. Inside each bag was a mix of powder and a gummy-like substance. Following the instructions, I applied the product on a rainy night. The water infused with the tea bags had no noticeable color, and the gummy material turned into a gel-like substance that remained inside the bag without dissolving into the water. One week after application, I watered the lawn at night and inspected it under a powerful headlamp. Unfortunately, I still found a large number of grubs and Japanese beetles. This product had no effect on my lawn.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Raccoon and grub problems

Bought this product to ward off the raccoons digging up our lawn to get at the grubs underneath. The grubs also caused a lot damage to the lawn and allowed weeds to take over the affected areas. Too much area to cover with just a garden hose so waited until the next good rainfall to apply it. Shortly after applying the raccoons stopped their digging. Too early to tell if our lawn will be able grow back and will have to wait until the fall.

    Not properly stored

I believe that the reviews are not so great due the the product not being stored properly. Nematodes are living organism that needs to be cooled in fridge before you use it. Canadian tires stores them at room temp....probably most of the nematodes inside are dead, hence ineffective...

Q: Do I rake away the damaged dry yellow grass patches before applying the grub busters? I have large sections of dead yellow grass on our front and backyard lawns that are badly damaged. I was wondering if raking away the dead grass will help the grub busters absorb better into those areas? Thanks

Q: How do I know I applied properly? I follow the instruction using the grub buster sprayer. But the problem I have is that the mixture in the sprayer is not diminishing a bit after 10 mins of spray. Is that mean the mixture is not get into the lawn?

    • A: I had the same problem , you need to strain the mixure through a kitchen sieve to get the lumps out, the lumps will block the tube in the sprayer and not allow it to syphon the mixure.

Q: Seems like there are many issues with the applicator. Can they be applied with pressure sprayer and then watered in via sprinkler?

    1 Answer
    • A: There was a new sprayer that was introduced last year (purple top instead of a yellow top) that addresses all of the functionality issues. These need to be applied with the specific applicator.

Q: Is it supposed to smell so bad?

    1 Answer
    • A: Yes, the nematodes can sometimes smell bad if they have spoiled. When storing Green Earth Grub Buster Nematodes they should be kept in a refrigerator where the temperature will sit between 3 and 5 degrees Celsius. They should be used by the best before date stamped on the bottom of the bottle. They will survive outside of a refrigerator for 24 hours, and once mixed they will survive in water for approximately 2 hours. Nevertheless, when opening the nematodes to mix them up, please note that if they should have a fishy smell or rotten meat smell, then most likely they have perished. This can occur through improper storage, or simply because they have passed the expiry date listed on each ball.

Q: Do I have to refill the mix/spray container to cover the 3000sq ft? Or should the suggested container cover the 3000 sq ft? If not how many times can I add water to the container to get the proper mixture to cover the 3000sq ft?

    1 Answer
    • A: Depending on the sprayer you are using you should not have to add any more water to the hopper bottle. When mixing the Green Earth Nematodes with water, please be aware that there is no specific mixing rate. You just need to provide sufficient water to allow the even distribution of the nematodes over the infected area. Water is simply the carrier. A minimum of 4 L is recommended but 10 L would make it easier, and 20 L even easier. Be sure to continued to agitate the liquid to prevent the nematodes from settling out of the solution. If you do not have the Green Earth Nematode Applicator you may use any Water-soluble fertilizer hose-end applicator, Select-a-Spray Hose-end applicator (6 mL to 10 mL per Litre setting), or a Dial-a-spray Hose-end applicator (6 mL to 10 mL per Litre setting). A pressure sprayer may be employed but they generally do not hold sufficient water to disperse the nematodes, and wash then down into the soil.
