Messiest silicone caluk product used in 30 years.

Been a homeowner 30 years. Always calked my own tub/shower. This one is by far the worst to work with. By accident unknowingly, it's the second time i've bought this product. *the 24 hour cure one. The first itme I used it I found it incredibly loose and stringy. A nightmare to spread and keep a nice bead because it's so soft. Re-cauliing the tub again now, and realized I bought the same one. This time I waited the 5-10 minutes recommended to tool (5mins) but it was already far too set and clumped even when using a wet finger. This time will have to scrape off and start again.

No, I do not recommend this product.

OK when it finally got started.

I bought this caulk yesterday to seal some cracks in my shower tile grout/caulk, using my tried & trusted caulking gun. It was difficult at first to push the caulk out of the tube (it squeezed out of the bottom of the tube). I pushed a thin rod through the nozzle a firm times, and the caulk finally came out. Once it got going it was easy to apply and clean up with a "wet finger". No smell.

Silicone set-up too quickly

I have used the clear silicone many times and always had good luck with it. This time I needed white silicone and it did not turn out as well as I had hoped. I did all the cleaning and taping as usual but the white silicone did not cooperate and kind of looks bad overall. We were having a single digit humidity day with high winds and I have to wonder if that caused the curing time to be shorter and thus where the silicone lines came together they look like my kid did the work. I want to tear it all out and start over but right now I don't have the time. I will be using the tub and tile silicone next time instead of the Advanced II so that I have a little more time to work with it.

Yes, I recommend this product.

  • A: Thank you for posting your question. GE Silicone I All Purpose is not paintable but there are paintable versions of GE silicone sealant. Please try GE Silicone II Paintable sealant.
