The pruner part is average; their technology hasn't changed for the last 40 odd years. Pull the rope, pull again, and pull once more to allow for rope stretch and if your branch isn't over 1" dia,it will lop it off. I found the blade wasn't very sharp, so after 3 branches, I carefully sharpened it. You shouldn't have to do this. The tolerances between blade and frame are quite loose, and no extra tightening is helpfull. All in all, a mediocre loper, but I only paid $85, so there. Havent yet tried the saw, but it feels very sharp, so I'm sure it will be fine. Blade is easy to remove and install. The face saving feature is Fiskars extendable pole lock mechanism. Here, tech has gone to the 21st century, unfortunately the pruner stayed behind. My recommendation is this, Get rid of the nice, soft, black nylon rope which stretches an amazing amount, and use a white, cotton rope that has minimal stretch. Remember, the stretch effect plays heavily into the ease of lopping.

In overall, pruners does it;s work. Some brunches are difficult to be cut off because of their location/angle on the tree. Did not tried saw yet.
