Solar Heater Awesome!

I have this heater. Doesn't look like much but on a 15 ft. above ground it raises the temp. by about 10 degrees! My pool is 15' around with this heater is currently 84 degreesF and my sister in law's has no heater same pool and is 70 degrees! Takes up no space and is just so easy!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Works like a charm, if you do it right!

Bought 2 of these last year, and hooked up in series. It does indeed raise the temperature - and quite quickly (10 degrees in 4 days)... Keep in mind that it needs to be able to receive sunlight most of the day. Also, you should bypass the heaters at night (or simply don't run your pool pump through the night) to avoid doing the opposite - losing heat through the solar heaters.... I have my bypass set to push 1/3 water through the heaters, and 2/3 straight back to the pool. Add a solar blanket to "keep" the heat in so you don't lose what you just gained.... Most users forget these simple steps - solar blanket to retain the heat, don't run the pump all night through the solar heaters, and try 2 in series (much faster to heat up) We will get many years out of this inexpensive method of getting into the pool earlier in the season and staying in the pool longer at the end of the season!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Ok product

We bought one of these and it works.about as well as you would expect for the price. The smaller the pool, the better it works but the reality is that it has to be hot out for it to work and when its hot, your pool heats itself, so, it's ok overall, not spectacular.

No, I do not recommend this product.

great product when used properly

We have had this 4 years to heat a 15 foot round above ground pool. It's very efficient in raising pool temp about 10 degrees on a hot sunny day. Must be turned on in morning when sun is hot and turned off when sun is off unit. We put it on a plastic table to catch as much sun as possible, make sure the blastic bubble is clear without things like dirt or grass clippings on it, and use a solar blanket when we're not in pool to hold hest in, in conjunction with it. Using both in this way, our 15 foot round pool gets up to 78 to 80 degrees F. We run unit from about 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Can feel stream of warmed water coming in when sun is on it or ambient temperature warms unit. Cannot at heat at night as dark plastic gets energy from sun on it. This is passive solar technology, not intended to give results of electric high energy-use heaters, and cannot work like rooftop strips as does not have the square footage to collect energy. However, it is small, easy to set up, works great without leaking, does not require long hoses, and is cheap to buy and run with your regular pool filter. If your expectations are reasonable and it is used when sun on it, it heats a lot with little fuss and almost zero maintenance.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: What kind of Pump is needed? What do you recommend? I need to know what kind of pump is needed to work with this? I have baby pool that I want to use with this, but the pool doesn't have any plumbing to it... Anyways whats a good pump? small 5' round pool 30 inches deep. Thanks!

  • A: Depending on the pump fittings, you need to keep in mind that will most likely require adapters and clamps to size up/down from pool to pump and back to pool. Keep the solar heater height position so that it is at the same level as the water level, and your pump won't have to work as hard. There is a good amount of hose in the solar heater, so the pump must be able to push the water through the entire system and back to the pool. I have my solar heaters on a stand that I built, that is 12" above the water level of my pool. My pump is a standard pool pump (for an 18' round, above ground) so the water goes down to the pump, up to the filter, the up again to the solar heater.

  • A: We put it on a plastic table beside pool on sunny side to give it most sun exposure possible.

Q: i have 27 foot pool how many heaters would i need to warm my pool i also hae a solar blanket

  • A: To effectively heat your pool - in other words to heat it 10 F degrees in two days - you will need a minimum of 70 of these units. It's just math. the unit has about 4 square feet of area, which means it can "see" about 1200 BTUs an hour of which it might collect 900. (75% efficient) So a 27' diameter pool will hold about 15,000 imperial gallons of water - or 150,000 pounds of water. it take 1 BTU to heat 1 lb of water 1 F. degree. So you need 1,500,000 BTUs to heat the pool 10 degrees. To do this in two days, you would need to have FULL sun for 12 hours each day on 70+ of these heaters. In other words 2 heaters won't do anything. The pool warms up because the sun shines on the pool....

Q: What hardware is required.Hoses , clamps,etc

2 Answers
  • A: You may need a couple of clamps, as well as adapters to change from your pool pipe hose size to the size of this input/output....otherwise, very straightforward install. Be sure to tighten all connections (but not overly tight, as they are just plastic).

Q: can you use this heater in a heavy gauge 3-ply PVC pool?

2 Answers
  • A: Yes you can.... The heat coming out is not strong (fractions of a degree) but over the course of hours is slowly heats the pool water. I have noticed anywhere from 1-4 degrees Celsius in a day....so slow enough to not cause any harm to your pool....

Q: How much does it heat my pool to in Celsius

2 Answers
  • A: It can heat anywhere from 1-4 degrees Celsius in a day. I have 2 in series, and see at least 4 degrees a day. Expect to lose a degree or 2 at night if it is below 20 degrees (unless you use a solar blanket), but you get that back the next day... On a cloudy day, it helps to maintain the temperature you have raised it to... Remember to bypass the solar heater at night (or simply run your pump on a timer, and only circulate for an hour twice during the night) to help avoid loss of heat through the solar heater...
