Gas Cap seems to be a mystery to replace

I bought my gas cap from CT a few yrs ago. It has since cracked. I cannot find one to fit it for my lawn mower. I am so desperate I tried a coolant cap. I boufht my lawn mower at CT a few yrs back. Why cant I get a replacement gas cap?
