A total disappointment!

I purchased this to increase the cool air flow into one of our bedrooms but found that because of the cool air coming to it from the AC, the fan didn’t engage and because the air passages on this unit were smaller then the 3” x 10” that is in the bedroom, there was actually less air flowing through it so I returned it the same day that I purchased it.

Seized up, motor burnt out.

We bought 2 of these booster fans maybe 4 years ago. (not used at all in the past 2 years and mil was placed in a care home) Both have failed. Hardly used any amount. On disassembly, found the motor is burnt out. The bushing on the opposite drive end is seized up. Appears the grease used is not suitable.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Well built, but fan is very weak

As others have noted, the fan in this product is very weak. It is barely enough to move any substantive amount of air into a room. It does fit well into a typical vent opening, the controls are good, and the product seems well constructed overall. It just doesn't actually do what it is intended to do. Needs about 3x or 4x the amount of airflow to be of much use.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the airflow did not meet your expectations. While we’re pleased that the unit fit well, was easy to operate, and appeared well constructed, we understand that airflow performance is the most important part of the product.

Performance can vary depending on the installation, vent opening, ducting, and the amount of resistance in the airflow path. We would appreciate the opportunity to review your installation and confirm that the unit is operating as intended. Please contact Cyclone Customer Service with your model information so our team can assist you directly. CycloneRangeHoods

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear the Booster Fan Plus didn’t improve the air circulation in your home. This product is designed to help redistribute heated or cooled air between rooms, but its effectiveness depends on factors such as your home’s duct layout, airflow, and installation location. We appreciate you giving it a try and are sorry it wasn’t the right fit for your application. If you have any questions or would like help finding a solution better suited to your home, our support team would be happy to assist. CycloneRangeHoods

Q: How long are these units expected to operate before failing? With maintenance, how long are they expected to operate?

3 Answers
  • A: I have not had any issues with mine. I plug it in when my AC is on and I can’t get the upstairs bedroom cool enough. It’s been working great for about 3 years now. No maintenance required.

Q: What happens when the furnace stops Once the furnace stops, does this fan keep running? If so, then it would just be pulling in cold air (in the winter). Or is it designed to shutoff once the furnace stops?

3 Answers
  • A: The fan only runs if the air in the duct is colder than the air in the room (on the cool setting) or warmer than the air in the room (the heat setting). You get to choose how much temperature difference there needs to be between the air in the duct and the air in the room before the fan comes on - the fan has a thermostat. This feature works really well and means the fan only runs when you would want it to.

Q: Can this be used in a bedroom to shut the register when the room reaches a maximum temperature you set?

2 Answers
  • A: No, the unit simply detects treated air (hot or cold, depending on the season) and clicks the fan on to help boost idle air from the ducts into the room. It cannot shut the register but it will clock off when the desired temperature is reached.

Q: We have an older home, and all our vents are very close to the walls and baseboards The surrounding trim on your unit seem to be quite wide... Any suggestions?

  • A: I would suggest you purchase the booster fan and determine if it fits into your vents and the space allowed satisfactorily. If it doesn't, then you can easily return the item to Canadian Tire within their "return policy" time frame.

Q: if I keep the temperature difference low (for A/C on cold settings), it keeps running all the time. Will it burn out and/or cause fire?

2 Answers
  • A: It's made for continuous use and would only cause a fire if there is a short causing sparks and a fire. But there is always a possiblity of things going wrong. The only complaint I have is that it started making a clacking noise after a while possibly from a component interfering with another piece.

Q: We have a gas fireplace stove and the internal fan is defective and too costly to replace/repair. Can I use this fan to push the hot air surrounding the stove/fireplace when it fires up out to the rest of the room (14 x 20) feet) and shut off after?

2 Answers
  • A: Not sure where you are placing this fan but it's designed to fit on a heat register. After a few months of use my fan started to rattle and make a noise. If you are planning to just blow hot air around there stove then it is better to use a standard fan that stands on the floor.

Q: Is the fan reversible to pull main floor warm air down into an unheated crawl space?

2 Answers
  • A: No. It will only draw air in one direction.  Could you mount it upside down in the crawl space?
