The 3M Sanding Disc is a versatile component of the 3M™ Body Repair System, designed for use during stages 1, 3, and 4. This durable, mineral-resisting disc easily attaches to the 6-inch 3M™ Stikit™ Disc Pad, and it’s ideal for use with a household drill. It’s compatible with the 3M™ Stikit™ Vinyl Backup Pad and the 3M™ Dual Action Orbital Sander. It's available in various grits including 80 for paint stripping, 180 for filler shaping, 320 for glaze shaping, 400 for primer refining, 600 for primer sanding, and 800 for pre-paint scuffing.

Q: Could I use these and get good results on wood? Can't seem to find adhesive 6" discs meant for wood. Will these work on wood without damaging the wood?

1 Answer

A: This P180 grit abrasive disc should provide a P180 finish on your wood. Depending on what you are trying to achieve. If you are trying to remove a defect or smooth it out, you may want to go even coarser (80 grit) depending on the amount of wood you have to remove. If you are preparing for a top-coat, you may want to refer to the manufacturer of the coating as to what final finish they recommend over the wood you are working on. It may be finer or coarser or maybe just right. Sanding, by nature, damages the surface of most anything…but is needed to provide a proper surface for coating, smoothing out a surface or removing excess material.
