Head Gasket

Had a bit of trouble at first, because I tried installing the replacement cylinder head without first removing the upper engine mount. Lesson learned: Need to remove upper engine mount first, before installing cylinder head. Then, attach upper engine mount to cylinder head. Then bolt upper engine mount to car frame. Another mistake I made was not supporting the engine at the 'dogbone' joint. Instead, I followed the pictures in the Haynes and Chilton manuals, which showed a jack placed under the engine with a block of wood, but not under the oil pan, and not under the 'dogbone' joint. I only learned of the dogbone joint later. When I left the car for the night with the old cylinder head off, and then came back the next morning, the engine had shifted quite a bit, and the upper engine mount seemed to have some play, so I was concerned that I may have bent or crushed something. I had learned about the 'dogbone' joint overnight, so moved the jack to this joint. I don't have 2 jacks, so had to improvise this maneuver. Let's just say it involved a stack of thick books inside a couple plastic bags. Perhaps a better lesson learned is to install the replacement cylinder head and upper engine mount as soon as possible, so as not to have the engine supported by the jack for too long. Because of all this learning, I didn't sandwich the head gasket between the cylinder head and engine block in one try, and the surfaces touched a number of times and there was some sliding (but no scraping), and I was concerned that I might have damaged the head gasket, but 1,000 kms after the repair and no leaks, so the head gasket seems to be working fine. Engine mounts also seem fine.
