Q: How do you stop the 5" vise from rotating on the base? No matter how tight I make the screw downs , the vise still rotates. How can I lock it so it never rotates and the vise carries a torque?

Q: How heavy is this vise?

4 Answers
  • A: if it only 25 lbs it's a very LIGHT vice not "very heavy", the ones used on our shop when I was growing up were all around 80 to 90 lbs. The home vice I am looking to replace is a cheapo, it's about 12lbs and it has survived 3 yrs of abuse.

Q: I bought one of these and it only has three mounting holes. Is this normal or did I get a bad casting? It looks like it should have four.

  • A: You did not get a bad cast, it has only three holes by design. I guess they needed to save on materials somewhere along the way.

Q: Screws to use for mounting this vise on a work bench Shall I use wood screws or bolt and nut on a work bench with a wood top table (like those of mastercraft's)? Will use this vise to hold things that needs to be torqued with a torque wrench max. 80 ft-lb

  • A: Much better off using a bolt and nut. It will be stronger and you can remove/replace it as often as needed without weakening the threaded hold in your benchtop like a screw would.

  • A: Le produit est garantie à vie mais garder une copie de la facture. Si c'est du papier thermique, faites une photocopie parce que le papier thermique a tendance à s'effacer avec le temps s'il n'est pas bien entreposé.

Q: Im replacing an existing vise and want to make sure the bolt pattern matches. Can you provide a bolt template?

2 Answers
  • A: Canadian Tire is confusing on this. In some answers they claim that the bolt size are M10 (likely correct) and in some others they claim that it's M6 (likely incorrect). M6 appears to be too small for bolting this down...unless I'm not understanding their answer.

Q: Is there a replacement part avaliable for the vise screw rod? Mine broke at the spring.

2 Answers
  • A: The vise has lifetime warranty. Canadian Tire should be able to replace it for you. Make sure you have a copy of the receipt.

Q: where can you buy jaw plates for this vise mine boke

2 Answers
  • A: You can look at places like Lee Valley but I doubt that they will fit - Not all vises are created equal and have standard vise bolt pattern. The vise has lifetime warranty. Canadian Tire should be able to replace it for you unless it's not covered.

Q: How wide do the vise jaws actually open? I thought a 5 inch vise meant that the jaws opened 5 inches, although it might mean the top jaw length? I only asked this because a review comment said that the vise only opened 3 inches.

2 Answers
  • A: I own the 4 inch vise.....and it opens 4 inch wide. The 4 inches means "how wide the jaw is!" the same thing applies to the 5 inches.
