This portable refrigerator is exactly what I've been looking for. I was tired of the hassle of ice and food floating in water. Its surface is durable and scratch-resistant. The weight of it is perfect for me, as it's permanently mounted in the back of my SUV and I don't need to move it around. I take the groceries out of the fridge in a bag while the cooler stays in the truck bed. The control panel is easy to operate. I also really like that the cooler is equipped with batteries. It is connected to the 12v DC car's power port, and when the engine is turned off, the refrigerator automatically switches to the batteries. It provides constant power supply. As recommended, I bought two five-amp batteries, but I only need one battery to last a whole day, combined with the car's power. The refrigerator can run for almost a day on two batteries only without car's power. I plan to buy two more 5-amp batteries in case I need to use the refrigerator for longer periods without the car's power. The refrigerator also cools quickly and maintains a stable temperature well. The size of the refrigerator’s chamber is fine for me, as it is only needed to keep enough groceries for one day. It fits small packages of cheese, sausages, butter, smoked salmon, eggs, and other things. I wouldn't use this type of refrigerator for canned drinks. I use a Woods’ ARCTIC Roto-Moulded Cooler to store canned drink and wine. So far so good.

There's a lot to like about this unit. I like the display and temperature control and handle. My biggest bone of contention is it's internal size and the fact that you can't fit a bottle of white wine in it. Is that not a minimum requirement?

You can take ice cream camping. Ice cream. Camping. Buuuuut, only half as much ice cream as you think. The actual cooler compartment is only half the size of this rather large and heavy cooler. It says it fits 32 cans. I don't know that those are 355ml cans, and the marketing material doesn't either. So half the size is the cooler compartment, the other half must be all compressor, right? No. Half of the other half of the thing is taken up by another compartment. "Ooh! More cold ones!" No. Possibly more ones, but not cold. It is a compartment large enough to hold two 8.0 Ah PWR POD batteries, and that is where you plug them in. Half of half of this very-large-for-a-22l-cooler cooler is a compartment for $350 in optional battery packs. No battery packs are included. It is completely wasted space if you aren't going the battery route. An easy redesign to have the battery mounts on top of the unit, or wherever, could provide either more cold storage capacity, or less bulk, or even a bit of each. Since I brought up the batteries, the advertised 23 hours on a 5.0 Ah battery is just a lie. I ran it on two 4.0 Ah batteries having already brought it to 4 degrees Celsius on the 12V, and it petered out after about 8-9 hours. To reiterate: advertised, 23 hours on 5.0Ah; actual, generously 9 hours on 8.0 Ah. I am operating with a single-dock, 45W charger - which is another additional purchase not included with either the cooler or the batteries, as no, you cannot charge the batteries in the cooler on 12V or AC power - so to recharge the two batteries takes the better part of a day. That being said, the insulation on this unit, unlike most of its thermoelectric cousins, is pretty good and the lid seals well, so if you have it cold when the power runs out, it will keep things cold for a while. I didn't pay attention to this very closely so cannot accurately report how cold for how long. I would estimate that my chocolate milk was still safely drinkable after six hours - completely unscientific, and my memory is nearly as unreliable as my sense of time, so don't put too much stock in this. Then there's the cost, phew! If you want to run it off grid/out of the car which you can only do for part of one day, you are looking at a minimum expenditure pretty close to $800. One can buy many, many bags of ice for that price. Then there's the weight. Listed at 28lbs, add a couple pops in this thing with the batteries in the stupid, huge dedicated battery compartment, and she's a very heavy 22 litre cooler with a functional weight closer to 28kg. Sure, it has a folding handle and wheels for transport, but it also has a compressor and all of the mobility restrictions therewith. Yeah, it's portable, but just. All said and done, of you require a mobile refrigerator/freezer (one or the other, not both simultaneously), this is a good, but expensive option, but becomes wholly impractical unplugged for anything other than a day trip. If it's a weekender box your require, and this price range hasn't scared you off, I'd let the good folks at Yeti take your money for a regular powerless box that'll keep your icy foot three days or more for a couple hundred left over for ice and drinks.
