major recall. local can tire did nothing!

purchased one in 2012 and one in 2013. found out when I went to lookup oil type(october 2024) to change it that there's a major recall and to return it. called the 800 number was told to just return to customer service. went to customer service at local canadian tire with the recall print out. all the girl could tell me is it was 30 day return policy and 3 year warranty and that 's it! told her to find someone else to check with and she said no one else was available! not impressed.

Do not buy this. If you bought it, you need to bring it back to Canadian Tire right away as there has been a major recall on this. Get your money back.

This is SUPER DANGEROUS to use! UNPLUG AND STOP USING RIGHT AWAY! Put it in your car, go to Canadian Tire and get your money back.
Sadly, if you have no receipt, and it was bought before 2014 (when they changed to Triangle Rewards), all you'll get back is the lowest sale price it was ever sold for. But I guess it's better than zero or losing your life!

Good small compressor

I have used this unit for nearly 2 years on various renos and it is going strong. It recharges fast and can keep up with tools such as an air nailer, coil roofing nailer and flooring stapler. Users must adhere to the instructions in the manual to use ONLY 12 gauge extension cords, and then only to a maximum of 50'. These are high start current induction motors and will burn out or not start otherwise! This also means that this unit must be the ONLY device on a 15amp breaker. Yes, it's heavy but that's OK. Noise level is fine. Beats me why the handle was not placed above the centre of gravity, though! Overall a great unit for the price, but I don't expect it to do the work of my 60gal 220v vertical in the workshop!

AIR COMPRESSOR IS THE BEST PURCHASE EVER

This 5 gallon air compressor is prefect for doing lug nut on my car with a impact gun.Follow the instructions for the break-in time.As far as noise not loud for a air compressor at all.Weight is just right because this is a solid unit. GREAT VALUE VERY PLEASED.

Almost Useless

Fine for filling up tires or maybe a nailer, but not good for much else. It won't even turn any of my air tools. If you plan to use any air tools, you will need something bigger.

Q : Does it have enough power to run , , , Can it run a floor stapler, impact wrench and painting gun. I guess if it can run all of this it can run finishing nailer too.

R : Don't know specifically about those tools but I ran a framing nailer driving 3½ " nails AND a brad nailer simultaneously when I was building a cottage addition last week and the compressor cycled every 21 - 25 nails or up to 30 nails when using the framer only. also had no problem with a coiled roofing nailer.

R : You should use a non detergent 30 w oil or comprssor oil. Do not use ordionary engine oil but you can get the none detergent at the same rack in the store. I paid under $3.00 for a liter.

R : J'avais une perte d'air lorsque le comtresseur tourne. C'est le petit tuyau d'aluminium entre le compresseur et les réservoir qui était cassé près de l'adapteur du bas. On ne voyait pas la fissure. Mon compresseur est encore sur la garantie. J'ai commandé la pièce depuis 6 semaines On est le 26 sept. 2012 et je n'ai toujours pas reçu la pièce....

Q : Air tank drain valve closed but releasing air. I just got my air compressor and did the 30 min break-in procedure. But now with the the air tank drain valve closed, air is still being released while the air compressor is on. Is there something I can try to fix this?

R : This happened to mine also. You will have to ask them to send you a new valve. I removed mine and got over a teaspoon full of metal welding splatter balls plus 3 big slag pieces out of it. Took 2 hours of rolling and shaking tank back and forth and finally had to use a magnet on a wand to get the slag pieces out. These weld splatters roll and clog the drain valve. You will need some teflon tape to install the new valve, but don't install it until you get all of the weld splatter out. All it takes is one small ball of splatter to wreck the new valve.

R : I use this compressor in my service vehicle. I power it with an 3000 watt inverter that delivers 20 amps. Canadian Tire 3000 watt inverter will NOT run this compressor. My inverter is much more heavy than the Can. Tire units.

Q : Considering a Replacement Hose I understand the hose that comes with the unit is pretty cheap so I was going to get a better one, maybe a 50 ft. rubber hose. My question is would a longer hose loose it's output air pressure?

R : The dial adjustment is for a regulator that controls the tank pressure. When air is not being used, pressure in the hose will be the same throughout the entire length of the hose as the tank pressure. When air is being consumed, longer hoses will cause cause friction losses protportional to the length of the hose. The higher the flow volume, the more noticable the friction losses will be. Larger diameter hose will have less friction loss than smaller hose at the same flow rate. If I was going to add a 50' hose, I would use a 3/8 diameter hose to minimize friction losses. It won't make much difference for low volume applications, but if you are trying to run an air grinder or other pneumatic tools, you will notice the difference.

R : I think it would burn it out over time from over heating. You could if you stop and let it cool down say every 20 minutes, but I personaly would not. Thats my opinion and have not tried it.

R : -1- La puissance de pointe est la puissance que le moteur peut fournir pendant un court moment et la puissace de service est la puissance en continue. -2- Oui il ce remplira plus vite (des secondes).

R : I believe this is the Hot Rod compressor, just with different badging/stickers. Shortly after they started selling the HR comp. , they replaced the HR's with their own label and have been selling it ever since - ya seldom, if ever, see the HR's in CT anymore. I have the Hot Rod version, and I find it fairly quiet - I also have a small 3 gallon campbell Hausfield and it is scarey noisy - so i guess I'm comparing the two. I find it to be a decent household use compressor - its not a comercial unit - but neither is te price. Buy it on sale for $125-150, its on sale 2-3 times a year. And get a good 50ft hose.

Q : is it normal for this compressor to cycle on and off every 15 minutes or so and to leak off all pressure after about 24 hours or do I have a leak? Have owned it for a couple of years but only given it very light use. Behaved this way since new so I have mostly used my other compressor which will hold pressure virtually indefinitely.

R : You have a leak, not unusual for a new unit. First check the drain valve is shut tight - sometimes dirt gets trapped and needs a good blow down to seat properly. If that doesn't help, then go over all the accessible tube fittings with soapy water. Tighten anything blowing bubbles.
