This unit sat on a night table indoors as a night reading light for a few months and then stored away for the summer. When it was pulled out for the new school season it was found to have a sticky clear liquid all over it that appears to be coming from it.

Q : What does the battery look like and is it replaceable? Has anyone taken off the battery? The manual says a typical life span of the battery is only 1 year. I don't want to spend $40 on this if the battery is not replaceable.

R : If you have the halogen version, the battery is an a 6V SLA battery between 0.8-1.2 Ah (ampere hour). Size is about 2 x 3 x 1". If you have the LED version, the battery is a lithium ion made up of 3 x 18650 cells. These look almost like AA batteries (except fatter and longer). I have also have an LED version that uses 3 x AA rechargeable Nihm soldered together. These 3 batteries have different capacities and different outputs. It all depends on how the final load is configured. I'm guessing that manufacturers churn out different models and then they are just all branded similarly There batteries on these units are intended to be user replaced. While it is still possible, the cost of buying replacements is usually more than twice the cost of buying a complete unit when it's on sale

Q : I really wish this worked. I love the light. Nice and bright Does'nt hold a charge at all. Charge for 3 hours only. Ridiculous. I want to plug it in and when I come back to it I want it to work. Right now the charge doesn't last more than 5 min. Too bad

R : You cannot use the charger provided but if you can find AC Adapter with the same output values you are good to go (I believe it's 6V, 300mA, but check with your charger).

Q : The charging light is green but the spotlight and lantern does not light. The lantern light only lights when it is plugged in to an electrical outlet It is 2 million candlepower spotlight and lantern combo and I have used it only three times.

R : Yes. It usually turns green after around 10 hours although one of mine stopped turning green after a few months.

R : ne vous inquiéter pas car des fois elle prend beaucoup de temps a charger moi aussi je me suis poser la question mes le voyant deviens vraiment vert quand elle est prête , il faut pas oublier de la charger une fois toute les trois mois.

R : Depends on the model. The halogen version uses an SLA (sealed lead acid) that looks like a mini car battery. These are sometimes referred to as AGM (absorbed gas mat) batteries and a sealed and unspillable. The LED version uses lithium batteries called 18650. The SLA is user replaceable. The Lithium requires that you know what you are doing else injury can result. A good specialty battery shop (non-automotive) should be able to help you build a lithium pack. Either version is not cheap (about $15-20 depending on where you get them) so it may not always be the best thing to do since they would cost more than the lamp itself. But if you are interested, and since you live in Coquitlam, there are lots of these vendors along Boundary road. Just google "sla battery vancouver" and links should point you to a few stores. Always remember to recycle spent batteries properly. Dont throw them in the garbage.
