Here's my honest, straightforward review of the two Mastercraft products I received for free through the Butterly program (in partnership with Canadian Tire) as of late 2025. I'm a typical homeowner/DIYer not a pro tradesperson so this is from that perspective after a few weeks of real use on holiday projects, furniture assembly, small repairs, and organizing the garage.
Mastercraft Medium Parts Organizer, 4-Compartment
Overall Rating: 4.2/5
This is a solid, no-nonsense little organizer that does exactly what it's supposed to without any drama.
What I like:
- The build feels sturdy for the price point thick plastic, secure latches that actually snap shut properly and don't pop open when you carry it.
- The four main compartments with adjustable/removable dividers give you decent flexibility. I use it mostly for screws, drywall anchors, picture hanging hardware, and random small bits. The clear lid is a huge plus you can quickly see what's inside without opening everything.
- It's compact enough to toss in a toolbox or on a shelf, and the size is perfect for "grab and go" jobs around the house.
- For free, it's excellent value. Even if I'd paid the typical ~$1015 Canadian Tire price, it'd still feel worth it.
What could be better:
- The dividers aren't super thick, so if you overfill a compartment and drop the case, things can shift a bit between sections (not a huge issue, but noticeable).
- No wall-mount holes or stackable features on this exact medium 4-compartment model (some other Mastercraft organizers have those). It's more of a standalone portable case.
- The latches feel a tad cheap/long-term they've held up so far, but I wouldn't trust it for rough daily abuse in a pro setting.
Bottom line: If you're a homeowner who wants something better than ziplock bags or a messy tackle box for small hardware, this is a great pick. Reliable, practical, and zero regrets. Highly recommended for casual use.
Mastercraft 20V 1-Speed Drill/Driver Kit with 83-pc Accessory Kit, 2.0 Ah PWR POD Battery & Charger
Overall Rating: 3.8/5 (solid for beginners/home use, but shows its budget roots)
This is the classic entry-level cordless drill from Canadian Tire's house brand. I got the version with the big 83-piece accessory kit (bits, drill bits, etc.), single 2.0 Ah battery, and charger.
What I like:
- The 83-piece accessory kit is the real MVP here tons of screwdriver bits, some drill bits, and extras. It's more than enough to get started without buying separate sets right away. Great bonus for a free kit.
- The drill itself has decent power for homeowner tasks: assembling IKEA furniture, hanging shelves, installing curtain rods, light deck screws, etc. The 1-speed setup (no variable gears) keeps it simple, and the LED light (with afterglow) is surprisingly useful in dim spots.
- The PWR POD battery system is convenient Canadas "universal" platform means you can share batteries with other Mastercraft/NOMA/Yardworks tools later if you expand. The 2.0 Ah battery lasts long enough for typical weekend projects (I got through a full day of furniture assembly without swapping).
- Super easy warranty/exchange at any Canadian Tire store (3 years on tool/battery) peace of mind.
- Again, free through Butterly? Massive win. This kit normally retails around $80120 on sale, and it's a legitimate starter setup.
What could be better:
- It's a brushed motor with only 1 speed, so it feels basic compared to modern brushless 2-speed drills from DeWalt/Ryobi/etc. Torque is adequate but not impressive it bogged down a bit on longer 3-inch deck screws into hardwood (had to pre-drill).
- The chuck is okay but not the smoothest; bits sometimes need a little extra tightening.
- The 2.0 Ah battery is on the smaller side by 2025 standards runtime is fine for light/medium use, but heavy drilling drains it faster than higher Ah options.
- Build quality is "budget" plastic feels a bit flexy, and the ergonomics aren't as refined as pricier brands. It's not going to last 10+ years of daily pro use, but for occasional homeowner jobs, it should be fine.
Bottom line: This is a perfectly acceptable first/backup cordless drill for anyone who doesn't do heavy construction. The huge accessory kit bumps up the value a lot. If you're just starting out or need something cheap/reliable for around-the-house stuff, it's a thumbs-up. Pros will want to step up to Maximum or a name brand, but for most people? It gets the job done without fuss.
Final Thoughts on the Bundle
Both items are classic Canadian Tire Mastercraft quality: nothing fancy, but durable enough for everyday DIY and backed by easy store support. Getting them free via Butterly was a fantastic deal I'd happily recommend the program to others. If you do mostly light-to-medium home projects, these are honest workhorses that punch above their weight class. Thanks Canadian Tire & Butterly!
