I know you have to wait what seems like forever people but if you're serious about getting the best deals on bulbs the end of season sales are the time to stock up. As long as you are willing to dedicate the time and space needed to ensure that you winter them properly indoors (which is where any bulb crazy person will winter anything they have that is considered special) Essentially you will want to replicate similar conditions to what a bulb would experience outside although, depending on where in Canada you are it may not need to be for quite as long as some of our winter seasons last. My preference, especially given that this variety has had a spotty record over the last few years do to a new pest being introduced, is to begin wintering them right away. Half in the fridge the other half in an old sack in the coldest corner I can find. Water them before you begin the process and generally speaking you shouldn't need to water them again unless the area you have picked demands it. You will know when they are ready to begin growing again as soon as you see new bumps around the bottom form (which will be the roots) and as long as you keep them rather cool they will continue to hibernate growing maybe a tiny green shoot eventually. Once you plant them and they get water and warmth then they will begin to grow. **Pro tip: when planting bulbs in the ground place them on an angle such that they are almost sideways with the top pointing up just a bit. The reason for this is two fold but essentially because before people came along and started gardening, bulbs where generally planted by creatures who didn't know (or care) to understand up from down (and had different idea in mind about how to enjoy it later). As a result most bulbs fare better when planted on their sides as this will help prevent rotting and generally yields other positive results.
