I m sorry to inform you that i bought this itrm online and i picked it up from st-laurent store and did not vheck it. My mistake. The tool was broken and pieces were missing. Although it has a warranty, i will not take it back or buy anything else. It is a shame.

Purchased this to do oil cooler lines on my truck and returned it the same day after finding that all it could do was wreck pipes by gouging them horribly. even with vise grips on the clamp for the tubing it was just pushed through and didn't flare at all. don't waste your money on this.

Don't waste your money on this substandard product. After buying it I looked at another make twice the price, and the shaft of the clamping tool is twice the size, for a ggod reason. Mine wobled so the flares were always imperfect. It's getting returned.

You've made the decision that you want to flare your own brake lines. Whether this is because you're doing a restoration or a repair, I commend you on your brave choice. Full of enthusiasm, you head out and purchase this tool. A quick inspection reveals a few possible flaws: The clamping holes aren't the same size, or entirely circular, on both sides. The clamping bars aren't exactly straight. Bah, you say. All Mastercraft tools are of the utmost quality! Surely this is a feature of the design! But still, a modicum of caution seeps in. You grab a piece of tubing to practise on before committing one you spent an hour bending into the perfect shape. Following the instructions, you clamp the tube and tighten the clamps with moderate hand-force and place the die and flaring head onto the tool. This is it, your first flare! Turn the crank and.... The tube simply slides out of the clamp. Huh. Guess it needs to be tighter. Twist the little wing-nut clamp screws down as tight as your fingers can and try again. This time the clamp holds a bit better, but the tube still slides out. Unfortunately those not-quite-circular jaws also leave some fairly jagged gouges. Tighter still then. You use a large screwdriver to tighten those clamps as much as you can. Success! The tube is being held! But what's this? As the flare starts the die tips sideways... Then the whole tube squashes over to the side as well... Maybe you just need practise! More scrap tubing. More clamping. More flaring. All with horrific results. At this point your significant other is shaking her head. "I told you, you should have taken it to the shop," she says without sympathy. So, to sum up: With this tool I was able to produce at best a rough single flare in ANNEALED ALUMINIUM tubing. It's basically as hard as boiled spaghetti. Even doing this, the clamps would gouge and score the metal. The dies don't even remotely fit the inside diameter, meaning that they will always go askew and create mangled tubes. Don't even think of making double flares in steel tubing. You'd have better luck with a hammer.

SOFT METAL ONLY!!!! Tried to flare a 3/16" brake line and it's always off center. Got 1 out of 6 tries that were useable and when I went to put in the second flare it gouged my yoke, now completely useless. DO NOT BUY!!!!!
