Mixed bag, but the good was VERY good!

I’ve been through more inverters than I care to think about. Most have some fatal flaw that makes them useless for my apolication. THIS one, however, did the trick. ...At least it used to. I ran my whole cottage on this inverter, without hiccup, until I inadvertently damaged it, by absent-mindedly running my air compressor while everything else was running, too. (E.g. fridge, outlets, lights, television) Eventually, it just stopped working, and I have been unable to replace it. I bought another one at full price, online, suspicious that it’d likely be a return. Clearly, it was. So, after the 7 hr drive, and 1/2 hour boat ride to my cottage, dismantling the interim inverter and installing the “new” one, it was a dud...leaving me in the middle of nowhere and STILL having no reliable power source, and having to drive all the way back to return it and find some kind of replacement, drawing out the problem for 2 more weeks! Grrrr. If Motomaster would send me a new one of these, I’d be grateful. It’s the only one that has reliably worked for me. I’ve had other 1000W inverters. The lights flicker or go off, or they shut off every time the fridge cycles. I have a 3000W inverter. It is loud, seems to use a fair bit of juice itself, and shuts off at 12.6V. (And if you live on solar, you know you HAVE to have things that run all the way down to 12V.) I was hopeful about the 1000W pure SIN inverter I bought to replace this one. Alas, it had the same problem. It was loud (a slight squeal while in normal operation, actually), and shut off at 12.6V, even 12.8V, sometimes! Obviously, that is useless, if you run your home on it. Currently surviving with a regular 1200W inverter. It’s unable to cope with anything being on when the fridge cycles, so that means multiple trips out to the inverter, day & night, to reset it. (Last night, I caved, and fired up the gas generator at 3:10AM, just to get some sleep!) Silence and darkness are my new companions until I can find a replacement that works as well as the first one of these 1000W inverter/chargers worked for me. But all this experience suggests that, perhaps, my original 1000W inverter/charger may have been faulty in just the right way, if my 1200W inverter is blowing all the time.(?) I mean, shouldn’t a 1200W inverter be able to handle more power needs, not less?!? I’m telling you, my original Eliminator 1000W inverter/charger took pretty much everything I threw at it, without complaint. No shutting off during use of my normal devices. (And I mean never. Fridge, t.v. on while phone & iPad charging, plus lights. No problem!) No flickering lights. Worked all the way down to 11.9V. Probably the best, all-around inverter I’ve used, to date, irrespective of wattage capacity. I’m now forced to look at higher-end, more expensive inverters, with no assurance I won’t have the same problems as with the other inverters I’ve mentioned (too loud, use a lot of power, shut off during fridge cycling, lights flickering, or quitting at 12.6V). To be fair, I never used the charger aspect of it. So, I can’t comment on that. (I have separate chargers.) Like I said, I can’t find a factory sealed replacement, and the opened-box one I did buy was broken. If only I hadn’t damaged the one I had... I’d give anything, right now, to go back to my original Eliminator 1000W inverter/charger. It worked perfectly.

I am very happy with my recent online purchase of this 1000W Inverter Charger. I keep it plugged into a NOMA Digital block heater timer to control how much household power I use to top up my 12 volt battery.

I'm using it on a pellet stove which requires much less power than this inverter can put out.The switch is a little slow but functional. For the price point this unit is hard to beat. The other well known inverter brands are 3 to 4 times the price.

So far very satisfied with the product, very very quiet under battery operation unlike other inverters have used. Charger is very adequate for large 4D 12vdc 1350 amp battery that powers phone system for periods of 8 hours when off generator. would recommend for lots of apps.

Combine this inverter with a deep cycle battery and you have a very good battery backup for your sump. It would have gotten a five star if the first unit hadn't needed to be returned.

Q : can the inverter reverse its polarity? I had a pellet stove continuously connected through the inverter and now my stove auger will not work while connected to the charger inverter and there is an error code that says reverse polarity but works OK in wall outlet.

    • R : Some newer pellet stoves use microprocessors and may require a pure sine wave to operate. This inverter charger produces a modified sine wave. Please contact the manufacturer of your pellet stove to confirm whether your pellet stove is compatible with a modified sine wave. If a pure sine wave is required, consider Eliminator inverter (no charger) model 11-1892.

    • R : The inverter keeps running until the battery runs out. Additionally, the unit may break down due to overheating, however once it's cool enough, restart it and it will continue to work.

    • R : update to my previous answer. this unit is 1000w CONTINUOUS! it is rated at 2000w peak, and 1300w 5 min load. the math for the cabling i provided is wrong. it puts it at 205 amps and 1awg (free air) copper wire. need a 200 amp breaker as they dont make 210 amp ones for 12 volt i dont think. its loaded alittle over 80 percent but it wont affect it , just wont pass inspections.

    Q : would this run a laptop for a day? laptop PSU= 65W , 20V @ 3.25 A . Assuming I use a DC-DC converter for the laptop,

    • R : DC-DC Converter would be useless with this, as it puts out 120V AC. This unit converts 12V DC power from a battery (that isn't included) and converts it to 120V AC 60hz, same as in your house. how long the unit will run depends on the runtime capacity of the battery you connect it to, and the load connected to the inverter Ideally if you connect it to a decent size battery, a small laptop charger should be able to charge your laptop for days using your current laptop charger that you use at home or in your office

Q : 14.4 volts charge constantly bad? Recently checked on a battery connected to this and it had been charged dry, this made me pay more attention to the inverter. It is charging the new battery at 14.4 volts constantly I thought a float charge was a lower voltage?

    • R : Yes, automotive battery chargers typically float around 13.6V. This inverter/charger however it is designed with characteristics more typical of a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) thus the higher float voltage. Even though the float voltage is 14.3V the amps under float are minimal (~150mA) which is suitable for a healthy battery. Please note, it is natural for batteries, especially those that are subjected to cycles of discharge and recharge, to lose fluid – it’s inherent to the charging process. Battery and charger manufacturers will typically recommend that battery fluid level be check before and after every charging and topped up, if necessary, with distilled water. In your situation, where the battery is constantly either being either drained or charged, we would recommend you check the fluid level at least once a month and even more often if be used under hot conditions.

    • R : Your float switch probhably needs to be replaced. Either the cord is too long, or the contacts are bad.

Q : Is this a good product for power outages for days on end? As opposed to a generator. For example, to run modem, computer, telephone, and possibly power the freezer/refrigerator. If so, how long could it last on a single charge?

    • R : No it wouldn't. Remember that the amps drawn out of your battery are 10 times the AC amps the 120 volt appliance uses. you would have to look at the amp hour capacity of your battery to know how long it would last on a given load.

Q : Is the inverter supposed to make a loud internal fan noise even when it is switched off.

    • R : No. I had the same problem and returned the unit. Luckily I was able to get the previous model as replacement which works fine (fan kicks in only when charging a drained battery bank) and the fan is much more quiet. Plus it charges with up to 20A whereas the present model is rated at only 10A Chances are pretty slim to find one of the old models. But I'd definitely return the unit for exchange.

    • R : This inverter charger is NOT a power source when the power is out. You'd need a battery/battery bank to store the power in case of a power outage. If you rig it up with properly sized batteries you can run any electrical appliance up to 1000Watts

Q : Overcharging The output of the charger is suposed to be 14,4V (as per the owner’s manual) but as you can see on the pics i joined, its clearly sending 15,8V to my battery, then its overcharging, i can hear it boil ! So.. What should i do now..?
