    Excellent tuner, clear sound, complicated

    I bought this because it has a sensitive tuner, and it doesn't disappoint. It can play many more stations that the stock radio, or even the JVC unit in my other car. I also bought it for the USB capability, thinking I could load up a USB stick with a collection of albums and songs, but it is anything but easy to scroll through them to find what I want to play. I've taken to just putting shorter playlists on it, which works better but wasn't what I was hoping for. There are lots of options listed in the manual, but it's short on both description and direction. One thing that took me a whole lot of trial and error to discover is that there are two different menus of options that one can access by pushing the volume button. You get to the first menu by pushing the button down only momentarily, you get to the other menu by pushing and holding the same button down until the menu appears. The dimmer is something of a disappointment. It only has a manual dimmer with two settings, rather than an actual dimmer wired to the one in the car. All that said, the sound is far and away better than expected, even with the stock speakers. But adding a set of decent speakers really helped.

    Just replaced my 14 year old factory stereo and front speakers with this unit and Sony 6.5" speakers and I can`t believe the sound. Best part was they were both on sale. Highly recommended,easy to install.

    Put this in my truck when the old stereo was starting to give out. Just with the new cd player the sound was a lot better. it works great and didn't skip at all. easy to use and well worth a 100.00 I like it so much I took all the speakers out and put sony speakers in. best thing I ever did, great buy.

    Basically, I just wanted a stereo with a USB port that would work with all the music on my Droid Razr. This thing is super picky about working with USB. I've gotten it to work with a small flash drive, but it does not work with a portable hard drive, a Creative Zen micro mp3 player (in regular mode or in usb storage mode), and most importantly, as the previous reviewer said, does not work with Android!! Which is the main reason i purchased this! The sound is pretty good overall; there is a seven band EQ that allows for lots of fine tuning the sound. However, the bass is overall significantly weaker than the stock radio of a 2000 corolla. Of note also is that all the settings are buried in a menu; there are no quick adjustments to treble or bass without delving into the EQ menu. Overall, its a decent unit, and makes a great CD player. Too bad they falsely advertise it to work with Android phones.
