    Outstanding Kayak - even used for backcountry camping & fishing

    I bought this on an in store clearance sale. I can't believe what an incredible value this is!! Every year I rent a canoe to go backcountry camping in Algonquin, but decided to buy this kayak. Benefits: -Amazingly stable, with the twin hull design. -Sit-on-top design allows you to haul gear. -Easy to paddle, especially compared to solo paddling a canoe Drawback: -Hard to portage, but I am not deducting any stars for this. It is just that this is what it is for any sit-on-top kayak. So just make sure to pick your route that minimizes portages, or camp on larger lakes. Just got back from a multi day camping/fishing backcountry trip in Algonquin. I really pushed the limits of the 300lb rating of this kayak. I'm 6'3" tall, I have a Labrador retriever, and with camping gear = approx 280lbs. At no point was I worried about safety/stability. I put my backpack in the front, my lab sat at the back platform. The only drawback of doing this is that the kayak is not evenly loaded, with a rear weight bias (again not a fault of the kayak), when loaded up like this, water comes up through the bum scupper hole, so your bum gets wet. I ordered some scupper hole plugs online to remedy this. By myself just fishing on the lake water coming up the scupper holes was not a problem.

    Great, Stable Kayak

    Decided to purchase a kayak for an upcoming cottage stay. Went with this sit-on model, as it was the same price as the same non-fishing model and my husband liked the fishing option. If you are new at kayaking or worried about getting in and out, then I definitely recommend a sit-on type like this. It's very easy to get on and off and it is extremely stable. This is more for a casual ride on the water, as it is not what I would call aerodynamic, and therefore not built to race in. But if you are looking for stability, comfort and ease, then this is definitely a great choice! One thing to note - online it says a weight capacity of 250 lbs. The attached info card that comes with the kayak says 300 lbs.

    I am a total beginner in my mid 50 and I like this kayak because it is easy to get in and out. Never used the fishing thingy but I use it every day. I love it!!!!

    • R : There are two sockets behind the seat that fishing rod handles may be inserted into for trolling. These are permanently attached. There is another socket located between the paddler's legs that is designed to accept a swivel-type rod holder. This socket is also permanently attached, but the rod holder may be removed - it is of a snap-in design.
