Easy to use Battery and Charging System Display/Monitor

This product continuously displays how many volts your electrical charging system is generating while your engine is on. When you turnoff the engine but leave the accessories on it displays the charge on your battery. It could not be easier to use, just plug it into your DC charging port.

Most cars and trucks no longer have a volt meter so this is a handy and easy to use volt meter that plugs into the cigarette lighter or 12 volt outlet of the same type. With the key in the off position you can read the voltage and then when you start the car you can see how well the alternator is doing as well. When you shut the engine off you need to let the car sit for a bit until the voltage drops to its resting voltage. The screen pivots so you can get the perfect position to read the meter.

R : That’s a good question. Not being a mechanic myself, but having a bit of experience, I would suggest you take the car and battery back to where you purchased it and have them do a proper “battery load test”. It takes 10 seconds and should be free, since you bought the battery there. This will determine if there is truly an issue with the battery. The other thing I noticed when I was having battery and alternator issues, was that the Motomaster tester was showing fluctuating readings from 10V to 16V as I was driving. If you see similar issues as you are driving, then the alternator isn’t charging the battery properly. so even though you have a brand new battery, it never changed properly over the 4 hour trip. So there might also be an underlying alternator issue. Just some thoughts which may help. Good luck.

Q : I have a Kia EV 2022 EX. The battery monitor shows the voltage only when accessories is on or the EV is on, ready to drive. Does that mean the monitor will not drain the 12v when the car is completely off?

R : If the unit only displays when your accessories is ON or the vehicle is running, it means your 12V outlet is not constant power/live. So, correct, leaving the monitor plugged in when your vehicle is not running will not drain your battery.

R : Hi Susy, the MotoMaster 12V Battery & Charging Monitor works by plugging into your vehicle's 12V outlet. Most RVs and campers are equipped with one. If there is no 12V outlet available (also known as "cigarette lighter socket"), then you may either a) look into a way to trace a 12V socket to your location or b) use an alternative way to monitor your battery by connecting MotoMaster Ring Terminal Lead (product number 011-1948) to your battery and plugging in the MotoMaster 12V Battery Status Indicator (product number 011-1952).

With key ON, engine OFF, the monitor provides an indication of your battery's state of charge. With engine running, the monitor provides an indication of your vehicle's charging system performance. Q : Weak means what 80% 90% charged? I know battery types (AGM, Flooded or Gel) have a different definition for full charge and 50% etc. Ie: AGM @ 50% is 12.5 Volts Flooded @ 50% is 12.1 Volts Is there a meter that allows battery type selection with a temperature sensor?

R : Canadian Tire does not currently offer a battery voltmeter will battery type selection and/or temperature sensor. Note, while AGM voltages are higher compared to flooded batteries, it is not universally true that AGM batteries @ 50% are 12.5V or that flooded batteries at 50% are 12.1V. It can differ by battery manufacturer.
