Good price, nice and lasting colour, makes a fresh overall look for my backyard.
Only negative factor i find is no many big pieces, rather too much tiny pieces and powder like.

Q : Can I use RED mulch around with fruit tree? What kind of colorant does it use to RED mulch? Can I cover this RED mulch around the fruit trees or vegetables? Dose it safe for edible plants?

R : CIL Colour My Garden Sunset Red Cedar mulch uses Iron Oxide as the colourant. Iron Oxide is used extensively in facial cosmetics, paints, and other chemicals. It has been used for centuries. Following an extensive review of national and international literature and information, no specific health concerns were identified. Nevertheless, we would not recommend using it in a vegetable garden as it tends to remove nitrogen from the soil when it first begins to break down. Most vegetables require high amounts of nitrogen to grow properly, and will suffer if they have to compete for this essential nutrient. Also as your vegetable garden is constantly in flux, replant can be hindered by the cedar mulch. Cedar mulch can take up to 10 years to completely break down, therefore also posing the problem of tilling the garden bed every spring. Cedar Mulch is a wonderful mulch, but is best used in permanent garden beds where the soil does not require tilling or replanting on a regular basis. It is also a fabulous cover for garden paths. Better choices for your vegetable garden would be organic compost, leave mould, landscape fabric, plastic sheets, newspaper, or even straw. I would suggest doing a little research to determine which is best for the type of vegetables that you are trying to grow. None of these will deprive the nutrient levels from the soil, and some of them will actually increase the nutrient levels. I hope this helps. R : Response from Vendor: Mulch in itself provides a very good protective barrier, preventing most weeds and grasses from developing, while also helping to maintain the soil temperature and moisture. Occasionally, if the mulch becomes thin, or there is a heavy influx of weed seeds, then weeds could begin to pop up, but they are generally easy to pull out if caught early. Keep in mind that additional mulch will need to be added yearly to give it a fresh look, replace what has broken down the previous year, and to keep the layer thick enough to prevent unwanted plants from growing. We recommend a mulch layer of at least 2" be maintained to provide proper weed control, stabilize soil temperature and conserve moisture in the soil. By using a landscape fabric prior to putting the mulch on, it will add an extra layer of prevention helping to stop the germination of weed seeds that blow in. There are a few instances where landscape fabric may not help, or could even cause a problem. The first is when sucker plants are developing, actually growing from the roots of near by plants, or there is invasive perennials such as Goutweed present before laying the fabric. These suckers and invasive perennials, are quite tenacious, and can actually grow right through the fabric, which in the end would then make it harder to remove the intruding plant. The second instance is, as the mulch breaks down, basically composting, it will begin to provide a composted layer on top of the fabric which would then allow weed seeds to germinate. Proper yearly maintenance of raking the good bits of mulch off, disposing of the composted layer, and then re-applying the removed mulch plus adding additional new mulch will help prevent this, and give it a very fresh look.
