I was not happy with this rat trap.

I had the earlier Victor model M241 and was happy with that model. The "upgraded" model M241B is very difficult to clean. I returned it.

Victor Electronic Rat Trap Disappointment

I spent $60, a lot of money. Even though nearby conventional rat traps worked, this $60 trap caught nothing. It is not easy to figure out how to use. It is supposed to have a light that goes on if it has caught anything. It’s hard to know whether it’s working at all when nothing happens. I’d like to return it. For $60, I could get so many conventional traps that would actually work.

This trap should show a green light when a catch is made, and proper setup is important for consistent results. Placing the bait at the back wall, keeping the plates clean and dry, and positioning the trap along active runways can greatly improve performance.

A waste of money

I purchased four of these traps, followed the instructions to the T and never caught one mouse yet I caught four mice on my junky snap trap. No performance.

We’re sorry to hear the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap didn’t provide the results you expected. For best performance, place the trap flush against a wall in an area with clear signs of rodent activity, and position the bait at the very back of the chamber so the rat must enter fully to reach it. Using a small amount of high-aroma bait, like peanut butter or nuts, can also help improve attraction.

Best Mouse Trap Yet

Not sure why this is getting so many negative reviews. As soon as I set it out, I caught 5 mice in just a few hours. They're too smart for the snap traps, but this worked great. Just follow the instructions and it will work for you.

R : I am not sure. I think it would be fine as I doubt it ever creates much of a spark. I have had a couple of these devices and overall I find them fiddly. This one however did kill a particularly wiley rat that evades us for a long time. If you are are putting it somewhere where you won't check it regularly then you might consider a WiFi connected version. I thought that would be silly until I found a 4-day-dead rat in mine.

R : The unit has killed 7 rats with the first batteries I bought. Do not know how long the batteries will last. The green light is still is still lit on the unit.

R : It is for indoor use. That said, there are a couple of things I have done to use it outdoors. One is to cover the top and sides with a heavy plastic. The other is that I built a covering for it out of plywood. The point is to prevent rain/excessive moisture. Victor does have an outdoor version, but I have not been able to locate a suplier.

R : Thank you for contacting us. Please follow the instructions below: Press the power button to turn the trap OFF, then remove the batteries. Open the trap by holding the base of the trap with your left hand and sliding the top backwards with your right hand about one inch. Pull the top away from the base. The kill chamber is now ready for cleaning. Use hydrogen peroxide (nothing above 3% in solution (typical drug-store variant) and an old toothbrush to clean the inside of the chamber. If needed, use a wire brush to remove any corrosion, being careful not to be too vigorous. Allow the trap to air dry completely prior to trap reassembly. To reassemble the trap, hold the base of the trap with your left hand and slide the top into place by pushing forward with your right hand to reconnect the pieces. The trap is ready for use.
