Great upgrade thermostat

I upgraded my thermostat from a two wire 30+ year old mercury tube type manual thermostat to this programmable wifi unit. Once I figured out how to get a 'C' wire hooked up to this thermostat the installation and setup was very easy. The app for my iPhone and iPad as well as the Windows based user feature makes this unit even easier to use. Instructions were very easy to understand and the online installation videos were a great help. The fact that Canadian Tire also price matched another store's Black Friday pricing made this purchase even better!

DO NOT BUY, no product support

Had this thermostat for 6 months and it worked fine and I loved it. HOWEVER just before leaving for Christmas holidays (when you need the remote access) I noticed the wiFi was not working , called customer service after speaking to 3 reps. was told product was warranted ( I did not have receipt) take 3 pictures, send and call back to start warrant process. Called back told NOT a warranty. HONEYWELL WOULD NOT REPLACE THEIR DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AS PROMISED> DO NOT BUY A HONEYWELL PRODUCT IF YOU WANT PRODUCT SUPPORT< THERE IS NONE!

Great Product

I just installed this thermostat in my rear garage, easy install and wifi hook up, you may need a wifi booster for better device communication during setup (depends on distance). Took me about 45 min for complete install start to finish.
Easy to understand features and directions. Excellent price for what you get!
I would highly recommend, will be getting one for my home in the spring (little more complicated hook up with AC and don't want to be messing with it in the winter months)!

Saved me a bunch of money

I bought this after buying our first home that had central heat from the 80's, we freaked out after the first month when we saw our hydro bill. So after some research I found this unit and it was on sale at CanadianTire.
Instruction are great, just take your time to read it and set it up properly.
With the Weekly program the furnace now comes on and shuts off depend on the program. I can also access it remotely with my cellphone. We saved a bunch of money. We will compare this coming winter's hydro bill to build a database, we will be upgrading the furnace next year, but the thermostat is staying!!!

I had only 4 wires instead of 5 so I called the Honeywell tech and used the green wire in place of the c wire.my fan doesn't work by itself anymore but I don't care as I have air cond. tech was very helpful, internet hookup was easy, checked on the unit for a month on holidays 2500 miles away and it worked just fine every time. the average joe may need a heating or electrical guy to install the unit, the whole process took about 2 hours, worth the money and effort...no unit that does this is a 20 minute install..

R : I think the response from the Cdn Tire rep. might be misleading. We have the t-stat like this that is not wifi. We can put the fan on circulate without any heat or A/C on. It will circulate on a regular cycle. We cannot program it other than that regular cycle. (or we can have the fan on all the time on low without heat or A/C). Perhaps you need to check this further (just as I am going to do because I am interested in this wifi model but make use of the circulate on a regular basis on my similar t-stat (minus wifi).

R : Yes this unit is compatible if you have 3 wires R, C and W. If you don’t have 3 wires this thermostat isn’t compatible.

R : The wi-fi thermostats (52-8508) need power and a gas fireplace doesn’t have it. 52-8842 will be compatible on a gas fire place since it’s battery operated.
