Easy to install but connecting the wiring was a pain. Wiring entry point is very close to the terminals in which the wires terminate. It required some wiring gymnastics but I eventually got them terminated.

Good thermostat with terrible instructions

This unit works well, but the instructions are almost useless. It is sold in Canada but the unit is set in degrees Fahrenheit and the instructions do not give any hint as to how to change to the Canadian standard Celsius/Centigrade. Also the instructions for installing in a previous two-wire set-up are not clear as to which wire goes where.

I have been converting my thermostats to digital, but one of my rooms is connected through a transformer to operate on a low voltage thermostat. Will this thermostat work for that set up?

R : The RTH221B1008 is a low voltage thermostat. It is rated for a minimum of 20Vac and a maximum of 30Vac. It is compatible with the following types of systems: Gas, oil or electric furnace — 2 or 3 wires Central air conditioner — 2 or 3 wires Hot water system (steam or gravity) with or without pump — 2 wires Millivolt system — 2 wires Central heating system with air conditioning — 4 or 5 wires Based on the description of your existing system and how the thermostat has been installed, it is quite likely the RTH221B1008 could be used as a compatible replacement thermostat. To verify that, as well as confirm how the RTH221B would actually be wired, we would recommend contacting our consumer technical support group at 1-800-468-1502. Please be prepared to provide information on the make and model of your existing thermostat, as well as the designation for each terminal that has a wire attached to it.

R : To enter the personal settings mode 1) Press the up and the down triangular buttons at the same time. 2) You will then see a 1 and then a smaller number beside it. because the thermostat is factory set to Fahrenheit the number will be 0 3) Press the up triangular button so that the 0 becomes a 1. 4) Press the up and the down triangular buttons at the same time again until you have excited out of the menu. Your display will now be in Celsius if all was done correctly.
