Grease Everywhere, Terrible Depth Guide

Bought mine for a project that required 48x 1/2" diameter holes in concrete. I had multiple issues with this product and will hopefully be able to return it. This was a reminder for why I typically buy higher quality tools.
1) After drilling 4 or 5 holes I realized the depth guide rod was moving, probably due to vibration. The rod would slowly walk down towards the drill bit, making my holes too shallow. I couldn't get the handle any tighter to prevent this from happening. I had to use some painters tape to mark the depth.
2) Somewhere between 10 and 15 holes the tool started slinging green grease everywhere. It got all over the worksite and stained my clothes.
3) The handle came loose multiple times, which I attribute mostly to vibrations but I'm sure being coated in grease did not help. After it did this to me a few times I just took the handle and guide bar off and tossed them to the side.
4) This unit gets incredibly hot during use, and seems hot enough to cause a burn. I understand the chuck and bit being hot, but most of the plastic was blistering hot. This heat buildup was probably caused by a lack of grease, but I'm not sure.

More than 10 Years and Still Running Like New!

I came to this site for a drill case and decided to do a review of the DW511 drill. I have had this drill for more than 10 years. I mostly use it on small projects around the house and for a few bookshelves and cabinets that I built for home use over the years. I do not know how it performs on large jobs or with constant use. But, it has never failed me. For my purposes, this has been an outstanding investment and I'm very pleased with the consistency and quality.

Works Great

I bought this drill to be able to drill into block wall in order to frame a basement bathroom. I have used it for many other projects since. I think that I can switch between the hammer drill and regular. The drill is fantastic and very powerful.

Seems to kick out of gear when drilling a hole

I bought this drill about 6 or so years ago, I would not have drilled 200 holes with it, ( wood and steel) and is now kicking out of gear when drilling holes and I tried calling call centre to confirm if its under warranty and just got frustrated going through that process.. Looks like only 3 yr warranty

Poor quality

Purchased this drill in 2008 for my vacation home and used it twice for tapcons, it went back the box and there it sat. I had a project that required 16 1/2" holes in concrete, it failed after 5. I pulled out my old blue competitors brand drill that has been used at least weekly for the past 25 years, repaired the cord and finished the job with no issues. When I finished the job I disassembled both drills and the design and quality differences were obvious.
I have bought blue corded tools all my life and swayed in this case for a few bucks. I guess that lemon yellow colour should be a warning.

R : The DEWALT 7A Hammer Drill, 1/2-in (0542916P) is a high RPM hammer drill that isn’t made for mixing materials. Due to it’s high RPM, the drill will essentially burn out if used to mix the materials. While still possible, we’d highly recommend not mixing with this drill as it could ruin the product. SBD offers a proper mixing drill that the customer can utilize. Below is the link to the DEWALT 9A Mud-Mixer, 1/2-in found on the CTC website. https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/dewalt-9a-mud-mixer-1-2-in-0545852p.html This drill spins at a lower RPM, allowing the materials to mix properly without burning out the product.

R : Generally anything with an electric motor (drills, saws, etc) is going to require roughly 2-3 times the tool's "amp" rating for initial start up. Some tools that can soft start (VSR drills) require less initial power than an air compressor, which are notoriously difficult to get going. The DWE5010 will at minimum require 1680 watts to run. The DWE5010 will require a maximum of 2520 watts to run.
