R : Testing done. Regular Energizer AA batteries (1.2V, 2300mAh) require more recharge power than this device can provide. But 600mAh batteries (closer to the original 400mAh one) can still be found online. So there is hope for keeping these lovely solar lights for a longer while.

R : The 1.2 volt, 200 mAh, NIMH battery inside your light is removable. Remove the cover on the back side of the solar panel and you will find the battery there. This same battery is rechargeable, but if it's no longer holding a charge after a day in the sun, it will not charge in the battery charger either. If you try it, you'll notice it will hold only a shallow charge, and will not last long. If the battery is still working, the best way to ensure it will last a long time is to keep it working but on a limited basis. Place your lights in a lit garage or shed, where it will only receive a small amount of light. The battery will cycle, but only a little, allowing the battery to remain fresh for a longer period of time. I do not advise leaving the battery in a battery charger, unless the charger is equipped to protect the battery from overcharging.
