Small Spaces BBQ

Have had several BBQ's over the years and was looking for one to fit our patio. Size was important. Easy to put together. Watch steps 3 and 9 - not hard but just pay attention. Very good storage below and shelves are a good size. Good cooking area. Handle does heat up so gloves might be in order. Heats up evenly and fits the patio nicely. Bought a Master Chef cover for small BBQ's - fits well. Very happy!

This BBQ collects rain water in the drippings container, even with the lid closed. If there are any drippings in the collector, they float to the top and spill out. Of course, one can argue that the BBQ should be covered, but this isn't always possible when going in for the evening, and the BBQ is still hot.
This is an aggravating design flaw.

Great Small Place BBQ

I recently purchased this BBQ after much research on similar size BBQs. My 12 and 14 yr old Grandsons assembled it in a hour for me with no effort at all. Everything fit together perfectly and there was even a quick connect gas hose in the box. After seasoning the grill grates we fired it up to cook supper. The heat distribution was very even and temperature control was excellent. It has a built in temperature gauge and electronic ignition. I like the fit and finish of this BBQ and it fits perfectly on my small deck. It's a keeper. The only con is the high price of the appropriate Coleman Small Places BBQ cover.

Coleman Small Spaces is Awesome!

I had a natural gas line installed and purchased this unit on sale. I assembled it all by myself except for lifting the grill unit into the base. My brother helped with that. I love this BBQ, it heats quickly, cooks evenly and is easy to clean. Small enough for my deck and my needs, but holds enough for company too.
I would like a proper cover for it though as I had to use another brand made for a chimney.

R : Hello and thank you for your question. This question is an important one to address early in the use of your product. All flare-up fires are the result of grease and fat drippings from food, igniting, while the grill is in operation. Flare-up fires will raise the temperature of your grill, char the outside of your food, causing uneven cooking, and leaving soot marks on the inside of your lid and possibly on your grates. The first step is to note where the flare –up fires are taking place. The most common area is on top of the heat plates and on the inside of the burner box. If you are noticing your flare ups in this area, it is an indication that there is leftover grease and fats, and clean-up and removal is needed. Removing key parts like grates and heat plates, will unveil a lot of build up that may be hidden inside of your BBQ. Our first recommendation is more regular cleaning of these parts. Our second recommendation would be to cook on lower temperatures. Unless you are searing a steak for 2 minutes, you should be cooking over medium heat, not high heat. This can also help to manage the combination of flame and grease interacting, and offer you better control of flare up fires..

On the Charcoal unit, you will have simple straight rod, porcelain cast iron, so that the user has visibility to the Charcoal, and on the gas side the user has our highest performing grates, the Dual Surface, Heave Duty Cast Iron grates. It is through life testing and performance testing that we have decided to use only Porcelain Cast Iron grates. The key with Porcelain Cast Iron is Seasoning your grates with vegetable shortening to not only protect for a long life, but also to create a non-stick surface. Seasoning instructions are included in your Safe Use and Care Manual. You will love these cooking grates.

Q : It is possible to convert this BBQ (Coleman® Even Heat™ 3-Burner Natural Gas) to propane?. I just moved to a new house and my deck doesnt have direct gas line. Another BBQ brands alows to install a kit for that purpose.

R : Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, the Coleman Even Heat BBQ is CSA certified either propane or natural gas ready, and is not convertible from one gas source to another. Any alterations to the system will void the warranty, and all of the safety certifications. You could consult with a natural gas technician for more information.
