The new kettle has no weld around the base, it's all one piece of s/s metal and should not keak.

One small safety concern

The kettle looks to be of excellent quality & whistles when the water boils. It has a removable cover to enable easy filling & the spout cover locks open to enable easy pouring when the trigger is pressed to it's limit. The first time I used it, I discovered a safety hazard. After steam exits the whistling spout cover for a while, hot condensation builds on the cover. If the trigger is pressed quickly, the cover flips open, sending the hot condensate up onto your hand. If the trigger is pressed slowly, there is no problem.

Q : My kettle seems to have a liner in it. Is that normal? I notice a build up with white spots on the liner.

R : I am not sure about the liner that you are mentioning. Mine has a coating that is dark grey. Is the coating what you mean by liner? The white spot is normal and is from the minerals and impurities and additive in the water. My issue is that the lid of the kettle rusts in some places around the underneath edge. The lid is also hard to take off and put back on.
