Repeatedly drops wifi link and eats batteries

Bought two of the Victor Smart Kill. Paid near $100 for eachOne seems to continue to work and link with our wifi the other has been nothing but a wifi night mare. Links with wifi for a day or two then drops the link. Totally drains batteries in 3-4 days without any triggering. Contacted Victor support several times in the past. Now they are no longer offering any support. CTC should stop selling instead of now offering them at a reduced price

No, I do not recommend this product.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Victor® Smart Kill Mouse Trap. We’re sorry to hear it didn’t work as expected. For better results, placing the trap directly along mouse travel paths and using a small amount of high-attractant bait can help encourage entry. For the connection issue, keeping the trap within range of a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and away from signal interference can improve stability.

Mice are more of a challenge than you imagine

We discovered 'a' mouse in the garage over the xmas break and bought a humane trap to catch and release it, which we did. Since then we learned that there is never just one mouse, and that you need to release them 1-2 miles away if you don't want them to come back - I don't want to start having to give mice day-trips out to the countryside! So we upgraded to this and it's been great. It was very easy to setup and connect to WiFi and it notifies us anytime it has killed one, even keeping a count in the app. The notification means you can quickly empty it (no touch, no mess) and reset it without having to add more food (just a little pea sized ball of peanut butter is working well). While it only has capacity for 1 mouse at a time, it makes it easy to empty and have it ready for the next without having to constantly keep checking on it. Yes, it does kill them, but it is very quick and humane and they are not going to be injured or suffer as they would with some other types of trap. Very glad we paid the extra to get this as once we are rid of them we can leave it down and don't have to go check it to know if any more have appeared.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Victor® Smart-Kill™ Mouse Trap. We’re sorry to hear the connection has been intermittent in the garage. This can happen if the Wi-Fi signal is weak or if the trap is placed too far from the router. Moving the trap closer to the signal source or reducing obstacles between the trap and router usually improves performance, also make sure that the trap is connected to a 2.4Ghz connection.

We’re sorry to hear about your experience with the Victor® Smart-Kill™ Mouse Trap. This model is designed to operate on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, which is common for smart-home devices, but we understand how frustrating it can be if your router defaults to 5 GHz. If your router allows you to enable or separate a 2.4 GHz network, the trap should connect more easily.

Questions

1 - 4 of 4 Questions

Q: Does it have batteries or is connected to 110 V outlet? It would be nice to mention this. Just in case it requires batteries, it may save a trip to the store.

  • A: It requires board AA batteries but they were provided with the purchase. Then you would only have to buy more if they run out.

Q: Is it possible for my cat to get her paw into it and get shocked?

1 Answer
  • Woodstream Team

A: To enter the Victor® Electronic Mouse Trap, mice pass through a uniquely designed tunnel with beveled columns. These columns direct the mouse further into the tunnel and make it difficult to back out. It would be difficult for a cat to get their paw fully into the trap where the metal plates are located. Despite this, we recommend setting the traps out of reach of children or pets.
