New model not as good as the old

Bought two of the original thermacell when they first came out. They worked perfectly and kept the mosquitoes away. This hunting season I bought a new one after the bottom that covers the butane, broke. The new model does not heat up enough and DOES NOT keep mosquitoes away. I got eat up. The next morning I used my old one and it again worked flawlessly minus the bottom cover.

I use them for early fall deer hunting, I am able to sit in my deer blind all day long without a mosquitto, just a reminder, pad need to be replaced every 2 hours

Does Not Work and Overpriced

Bought it for camping witj our dogs. While we were walking, mosquitoes were following us and got bitten multiple times on the neck close to where the device is. Obviously, does not work.

Does not stay lit

I bought this in July 2025, and the little red light letting me know this is lit no longer lights up, and I keep having to push the start button because it doesn't stay lit.

Q: CTire page the Feature sections says "15' (4.5 m) meter zone of protection" but Specification section says " Area Coverage (sq m): 1.39 m²". What space and direction from device is covered? How about obstructions like placed under table and chair?

A: Trust the information on the package of the unit you are purchasing as each style will offer different coverage [and therefore different burn rates of the Thermacell pad and fuel bottle—so while your coverage dome may be narrower with a smaller unit it also won't burn through the pad and fuel as quickly either]. That said, place it in the middle of your group unobstructed; or if it's just you about a metre or two away from you. Visualise a dome of vapour being projected up and out of the pad; so you wouldn't want to inhibit that by placing it under anything. As for wind, try and place it upwind so that the pad's vapour is carried towards you not away from you. However the winder the conditions the less effective this will be—but also, the windier the conditions the fewer mosquitos too since controlled flight becomes more difficult for them. I hope that helps.

Q: How does it work? Battery operated? Can you wear it while it is working? Does it use heat to evaporate repellent? I'm confused.

A: I believe it is operated by propane...it comes with 1 cartridge but others can be purchased separately. Yes it heats the repellent. I wouldn't recommend you wear it while it is operating as it does best with little air movement. Set it on a table or in a space that will be occupied by people and you'll find mosquitoes won't bother you at all with in minutes of turning it on. Very effective!

Q: Do you have a product that will work while going on a hike? I am using something with 30% deet and I am still getting eaten. I have a Themocel which is great if we are sitting around fire or swimming pool.

A: Hi, Thermacell products works best in a stationary position to allow the zone to activate. It does take about 10 minutes to activate the mosquito zone of protection.
